Yes, one can see it coming, and one generally gets warning sirens in advance, and one generally knows the conditions which spawn tornadoes and can make arrangements and take precautions.

They don't suddenly shake ones house and the ground under ones feet without warning.  I'll stick with the occasional tornado, thank you very much.

Glad you're all okay, Potter.

Potter saw a tornado....took pictures of it.....lived to tell about it......called it cool. Works for me.

No debate needed, I'm with Pat.

I had weird dreams about last night where a bunch of tornadoes wre all lined up down the side of the street and I tune in the ch.com and get pics!!

Glad the tornado didn't take a direct path towards you, Potter.  I've seen a few in my lifetime and they are a powerful sight to behold!

I have seen live fotage of your tornado Potter and I am glad to hear that you are ok.  I think tornados are cool to and exciting.  I saw a live one in person a couple weeks ago.  I was a few miles away but had perfect view of it the whole time.  I agree with Pat you have advanced watches and warnings and know to be on the lookout for them when conditions are favorable.  Plenty of time most the time to get in the basement and hide.

Had one around here lately, usually in June, too.  The very ominious dark cloud action lets you know something is happening somewhere near, but didn't see anything.  The atmosphere feels weird, birdies hunker down quiet.

Glad I didn't, that's a little too close!  Good pics, Slim.    Smiley

They just showed Billings Montana on our TV news tonight.  The roof came right off a local arena.  That's scary stuff!

We've had Tornado warnings and touchdowns all around us tonight, but it passed by us, thank Heaven.

Lots of damage in this area.

I do NOT like tornados, too damned unpredicatable.

Glad ya'll were safe, but shucks, that was a *baby* tornado.

Here's a picture of his daddy (the one that hit Tallulah LA, crosses the MS and left a path of destruction through MS).

That particular tornado destroyed a plant and numerous houses in Louisiana. "The most active day was April 24th, with 77 preliminary tornado reports, mainly in the Southeast. The deadliest tornado of 2010, and first EF–4 of the year, occurred on this day, when a tornado touched down in eastern Louisiana and tracked eastward into Mississippi with a 149-mile (240 km) track and a maximum width of 1.75 miles (2.8 km). This track length is one of the longest tornado track on record. Yazoo and Holmes counties were particular hard hit when the tornado reached its maximum strength with estimated winds of 170 mph (274 km/hr). Across the two states at least 10 people were killed and 146 injured."

This shows the track and ratings of the tornado.

Went through this one when I was a kid, living in northern Indiana.  Although I was only twelve at the time, I'll never forget it.

We didn't get hit, but the storms were all around us.
