Ch is a master of timing
Jun 23rd, 2010 at 2:09am

It's never a "good" time to get hit or in cycle, but this time ch is giving me trouble in a bad time indeed. And, yes, I happily considered myself to be a episodic in remission until last week...

Midsummer is coming up and this year we're going to break the traditions. I'm not going to spend the Midsummer with Mom at our summer cottage. Mom is going to Spain with my aunt, they leave tomorrow afternoon, and I'm going to Esa's aunt's summer cottage for the very first time.

Now, my fridge always has energy drinks, I have caffeine tabs and energy gum with me at all times and ice packs in the freezer, but still... Just the idea that I will get hit in front of my boyfriend's mother, brother, goddaughter and aunt is a bit terrifying. Esa has seen me during a hit - he was also there when I had my first ever Kip 10 - but his family doesn't know a thing about ch (well, not yet!).

I haven't had the chance to meet Esa's aunt yet, so you can imagine that it's not exactly ideal idea to meet her while getting hit! So let's hope that ch will stay away during - at least - the introductions.

I was happily PF, when I agreed to the Midsummer plans and it's too late to cancel now. To be honest, right now, I feel like staying at my new home and deal with all this, but it's not an option.

So I'm going to get enough of energy drinks for an army, update my "Sanna's Guide to what is Clusterheadaches" (2 A4s info about ch and how I react to it and treat it) and the tiny leaflet I have about ch, in Finnish. And hope for the best.

PF days to us all,
Sanna

If arisng in these circumstances, the occasion could bring well-meaning suggestions from the unknowing.  A confounded agreement pressed being mention of a doctor visit also.  Be best prepared, Sanna.

Almost 15 years passed before anyone in my family, including my wife, witnessed a CH. And that one was a Kip 8. It's a lot like having a grand mal in public: ain't my fault, can't control it, can't get used to it, and embarrassing as hell.  Embarrassed

Kevin,
thanks for the reminder! You're right, all sort of well-meaning advices might be on their way... and the word "doctor" might come up as well. I haven't seen a neurologist in 5 years, but they might still suggest that or visiting a GP.

Wimsey1,
You know, I tend to hide as much as possible when I'm dealing with ch. My boyfriend, on his turn, is there for me with 100 per cent. Ever since I got hit at his apartment, he has always insisted on helping me through each hit when he is at home. I know that I can trust him to see me on my weakest hour, but trust his family with the same...? I'm not that sure about that. After all, my mother has not seen me getting hit in years, and during those times she did, that didn't increase her understanding of this condition. My closest aunt has not seen me getting hit, ever, and I'm still a bit hurt that she once asked mom if I'm just "imagining all the pain". Sad Even I don't have that good imagination... and this pain if far too real.

Thank you both for your comments. Smiley

Well come on Sanna.......nothing that doesn't kill you can hurt THAT bad!  Wink We get to hear it all!

Christy has made me a little red travel bag with every CH trick in it. From Red Bull, to 4 way Nasal Spray, the imitrex, some old cafergot pills, Excederin Migrain. All you can do is be as prepared as possible, and hope for the best. Smiley
