I need my coffee!
Jul 1st, 2010 at 12:24pm

I am getting fed up again dam it!
I have not been able to finish my coffee in three days now, not sure what is going on but the head hurts and my stomach has been jacked for days now and just cannot drink my coffee and I need my dam coffee!
I mean come on aren’t the headache bad enough on their own do you really have to take my coffee away as well?
17 months now, man it sounds so long,,,, I want it to go away already and leave me alone for a while, I just need a friggen break is all and I really don’t think it is too much to ask for.
I have so many positive things in my life right now and should be the happiest I have ever been but it is all over shadowed by the friggen monster camping out in my head clawing at my brain, constantly pulling and tugging at the nerves in the left side of my face and trying to push my left eye out of its socket, I can feel him in there with a welding torch trying to burn away the welds that hold my eye in place but the welds are holding strong for now and my eye stays in place at least for now. I can see him in my mind’s eye, he is an ugly little bastered with big claws and a lousy disposition and is only happy when he is causing me pain and the more I withdraw the happier he is, you see this is all a game to him but it is a game I am determined not to lose, just hope he does not drive me mad before the end of this painful game.

I was having stomach troubles awhile back and my doc suggested omeprizole twice a day.  I drink a lot of coffee and taking omeprizole twice a day has eased the loud rumblings of my stomach.  It doesn't cause me any side effects that I'm aware of, and the coffee goes down easy.

I'd check to see if it interferes with anything else you're taking.  You can get it over the counter or have doc prescribe it.

I was having a really bad upset stomach so I could not have my coffee but I think I figured it out. I am on both the quick release Oxi and the time release and I think the time release does not agree with me. Last time I was on it I remember I took it for a couple months and I started feeling sick all the time so I stopped and started feeling better and it was the same thing this time, I did not take it last night or when I got up today and I am feeling much better at least in the tummy department. Kind of sucks because the time release does help my head and helps me not take as much of the other Oxi pills but not worth being sick all the time, at least I figured it out before the long weekend.

It's funny but I can't! I know Red Bull has caffeine but it doesn't make me FEEL the same way coffee does. I'm sure it's as much mental as anything!

There are lots of sources of caffeine including caffeine pills, but there's just no substitute for a cup of coffee.

It really is not the caffeine for me but the taste of coffee in the morning and maybe a little bit of the caffeine but I love my coffee. My stomach is back to normal now that I stopped taking my time release pain medication, bummer that this has happened again it really helped me and I got used to not waking up with my normal full blown headache and now have to get used to it all over again. I have to talk to my doctor and see if there is something else we can try but I am figuring it must be whatever they use to control the release and they probably use the same thing on all time release pain medication so no matter what I take it will make me sick like that. It was nice while it lasted, being able to wake up in the morning and not reach for my pain medication like a reflex because of my head hurting the minute I wake but since I stopped taking them I am right back to the old ritual of grab bottle take pills wait 30 minutes then get up and try and start my day, forgot how much this sucked in the morning I hate waking up with the same friggen headache I went to bed with. No no, Big Matt!  Really!
If you have to take sustained release narcotics, there are HUGE differences between them!  Some people do better with one type and some another.  And, some of the medications have more side effects with some people than others.  If upset stomach is your main problem with your med, as Mosaicwench mentions - omeprazole (Prilosec) may work well, or, you could be having some gastroparesis (slow stomach emptying) which opioids can cause, in which case some Reglan might help (you have to get this med from your doc).  Or, you might need to change your long acting med - fentanyl patches have a good reputation for excellent pain control and minimal side effects.

Just some thoughts, but please, don't give up!!!!

The patches may be a good option I will have to ask my doctor, I need something because this waking up in pain really sucks and is messing with my sanity right now. I hate being depressed as well and the constant pain I feel tends to cause this unless I get a break and I hate getting blottoed on pills and booze to just not feel the pain in my head and the time release gave me this without being to wasted.

Thanks for the idea. Smiley

Still trying to get in to see my doctor to try and get a new time release type pain medication but not word from him yet but I hope today or tomorrow since I think he may be closed today.
I really need something to help I am getting my ass kicked by the monster in my head. Friday really sucked, I was in pain all day and by the time I got home I was at a constant 8 now normally with SUNCT I am able to lay down and just pass out for about 12 hours when it gets bad but for some reason this time I could not sleep and was up until 3:00 AM fighting it. It did mellow a little over the weekend but I keep bouncing around from a 2 up to a 5 and mostly  4 and 5’s right now and it is wearing me out fast. I know if I had a time release it would drop it a couple numbers and make it much more tolerable so I am really hoping to hear from the doctor today. I just hate letting the monster in my head rule my days and dictate what I can and cannot do, so I force myself to go do stuff I know I shouldn’t when I am hurting but it does get my mind off the pain sometimes but I tend to pay for it later but like I tell Nancy, I am not about to let the bastard win. At least I can have my coffee.
Shocked

My doctor called me on Monday and said he would put me on the Fentanyl patches.
I picked them up Monday night and took yesterday off work so I could get used to the new medication but so far it is working well. I feel a little strange at times but when I wake in the morning my head is not screaming and that was my main problem with not having a time release medication. Just hope I do not have any bad side effects, my stomach is a little upset so far but I am hoping I just need to get used to the new medication and that it will mellow out. It was good timing, last Friday had one of my worse attacks this cycle and then had a steady increase in pain until I got the new medication so I had a very rough five days but better now.
