Sanna - Just convince your supporter that he needs to see more of the world - and a trip to Niagara and the US, no matter what the reason, is an excellent way to do that!!

You can come over for longer than the convention and visit other places if you want - like Philadelphia for instance, hint hint... Wink

I'm excited already toooooo!!!!!!!!

Interesting you should mention this. We supporters (mostly wives and girlfriends) but sometimes husbands or boyfriends would like to see some organized activities for us at a convention. Usually we just go shopping or exploring by ourselves. That's fine if someone knows the area and what's to see and do in a reasonable distance, but other times it's not so fine.

I know I and several other supporters would be willing to pay the whole convention fee if we got a bus trip or some other organized activity out of the convention. I have never been interested in hearing the speakers simply because I've done so much personal research and lived with CH so long (as a supporter) that it's nice to get away from it, even if it IS the reason we are all together. In St Louis last year, the hotel shuttle drivers were willing to take three of us MILES out to shopping and activities. Atlanta, the shuttle drivers took us to the Airport to catch the train to points further out.

Perhaps someone familiar with the area (in this case Rochester) could put together a list of activities and sites available to supporters without:
a) breaking the bank, and
b) spending a day driving in an unfamiliar area with little time for the fun part.

Maybe breaking said activities out into "age appropriate" types of outings, too (ie the over 50 crowd, supporters with young children, etc.).

I know enough about how non-profits work that usually the person who brings up the project spear heads it. I can't do it in this case simply because I'm not familiar with Rochester. Surely someone nearby can make this their contribution to 2011's convention?

Now I'm getting more and more excited!

I know that Esa has not seen the Niagra Falls - he did visit area nearby though. He has been to America twice: he studied for a few months in a university (as exchange student, I can't recall the state) and then he visited Florida for a conference.

When we will come to US, we will stay a bit longer than just a week. I have Philly in my list... Wink

To all of you who could not attend the Atlanta convention, the pictures you have seen of Dr. Larry Schor do not do him justice.

He is a whole lot hotter than that! Wink

Plus, he is one of the nicest, most giving of his time to help clusterheads, and one who brought several of his grad students to "just help out" at his own expense.

As a clusterhead himself, I personally think he gave more than he got in Atlanta.

Did I mention he was HOT? Cool

What a wonderful man. Great talk, and he facilitated a round table discussion with all the sufferers and our supporters. And the 4 grad students he brought along with him....they volunteered their time to help any way they could for the convention....and as future therapists...to learn all they could about our "unique" malady. GREAT bunch of kids, my hats off to them and the good doctor!

What Joe said! It was my second time to hear him and to participate in the round table (sans table), and I came away feeling a whole lot better. To be able to discuss what is going on with others who really understand is so cathartic.

The "kids" he brought along wwere totally awesome. They were looking for things to do to help and were always asking good questions about CH and how we deal with it. I think they will all be better therapists for it, even if they don't go in to the profession.
