Treatment with Hallucinogenic
Aug 1st, 2010 at 1:00pm

Hi all, I didn't want to post this on the new members board because I am not personally a sufferer.  I hope someone can help.

My Dad suffers from CH but no abortive treatment methods seem to work at all.  I was wondering if anyone had personally had any success using hallucinogens such as LSD or psylocybin, and, possibly more importantly, if anyone knows of the possibility of exacerbating the problem by attempting to treat it in this way?

I know that it is obviously illegal, but if it works I actually couldn't care less. I've read several reports from numerous sources that claim that hallucinogens can not only relieve the pain of an attack, but that can actually end a cluster cycle too.  My Dad tends to have 2 or 3 cluster cycles a year, with each one lasting over a month, so I think the idea of him having only 3 single attacks a year would be comparative paradise!

Your comments would be greatly appreciated, especially if you have experimented with this form of treatment yourself or personally know someone who has.

Many Thanks all, Joe

Joe, if you read through this site you'll find we're always looking for preventative and abortive alternatives. There are a number of great avenues and a good headache specialist will be open to whatever works. Try to get your dad to come on line here and share with us what he has tried already. Could be there are other possible ways to attack his beast. Blessings! lance

Hey Joe.  Yes to your questions.  And go to the busters website to get the details, but briefly:

The fungus, seeds etc can break an entire cycle and then protect you from future cycles when taken in correct dosages and at the right times.

The only negative to them that I have found is that after 2 years of busting I have more shadows throughout the year when not in my cycle.  Before I would have my cycle and the pain, no medication, and then be done for a year or 2.  Now I have shadows every week or 2 or 3 at very low levels.  The attacks try to come back every few months.  More experienced busters say that the longer you do it the less you have to do it.  You can prevent incoming cycles with very low doses.  So low that sometimes you don't really feel any phsycoactive effects.

Between the psilocybes and caffeine my last cycle lasted 3 weeks and only 2 attacks made it through.  The cycle started because I didn't read the warning signs well enough to know it was approaching.  That was 7 months ago, pf since then and I am smarter now. Smiley

Also, along with reading these 2 websites, I recommend that you and your dad do some research on Shamanic use of these mushrooms and seeds.  There is interesting reading on traditional uses of these substances in a context of healing.  Here in the U.S. we all think that "shrooms are for trippin", but in parts of the world they have a deeper purpose and a long established partnership with us humans.

Good luck!! Wink

About LSD.
25 years ago I was prescribed Sansert. It's made of LSD. Helped only a little to keep the Kip 9's down to Kip 7's. Don't know if it is even available anymore.

The generic name for Sansert is methysergide maleate, and it's no longer produced commercially. You can still have a compounding pharmacy make it for you as it's completely legal, but users MUST take a one-month holiday from it every six months lest they run a much higher risk of kidney, pulmonary, and heart valve fibrosis.

Thanks Brew. I only use Sansert for about a month. I took it before I knew about all the side affects, bad stuff. It didn't work well enough to take the chances of internal damage.

The bad thing about Sansert is that you have to take it regularly. For some, the desired effect is pretty near the same as using hallucinogens. But the side effects are NASTY and irreversible.

Which begs the question, why put yourself through all that when you can get the same or better (sometimes much better) results on a maintenance dose of something illegal twice, maybe three times a year.

Sancert did Not work for me.  I was bouncing off the walls
for a day or 2 with 1 pill of that stuff.  I'll go with the good
stuff a few times a year. Going to give something a try
after all these meds and their crazy sides.  Once or twice a
year can't have half the effect these things do.  Long and
short term.  Plus the others might just be fun!   Shocked  Who
knows.  It can't make me as dopey as this Dope-O-Max
does.  Would forget I had CH's if they didn't come on so
dam strong.   Cheesy

I got these when I first got Ch's way back, told Doc what
they did and he said don't take them anymore.
