Navigating Physical Therapy when in cycle
Aug 18th, 2010 at 11:10am

Hi,

I'm trying to get my back straightened out (3 bulging disks in my thoracic spine) and started PT the week before this cycle hit.

I'm not taking any prevents so far.  I'm trying to do it with just Oxygen and Imitrex again.  I hate the side effects of Verapamil and have made it through my last few cycles without it.

I've been getting slammed after each session.  Yesterday's session was later in the morning than the others and I suffered through a K4 on the massage table - that wasn't easy.  Knocked it back to a 2 during the physical exercise portion of the session and finally got on the O2 in the car right after.  Re-attacks continued throughout the afternoon every couple of hours.

I'm committed to PT.  My back has been really screwed up for a long time and I need it straightened out.  I'm not gonna let CH get in the way of that.

Has anyone else traveled this road before?  Advice?

Where there is Oxygen, you must use proper caution.
So be safe, don't smoke while using O2. Kill the pain and not yourself.

The only thing I'd suggest is Batch's PH arterial diet! Couple times a day toss down the zinc, magnesium, calcium citrate with D, and wash it down with some fresh squeezed...(or store bought if you're lazy like me!!) lemonade. Started it at peak cycle this last go round and really seemed to have an effect on the number and power of my hits.

I had been doing the magnesium and calcium with D supplement once a day, and moving from that to Batch's routine really made a difference.

Thanks Joe!

What dosages are you using?

Had to run and get my bottles!

Zinc 50 mg
Magnesium 250 mg   that'l keep you ummm..loose! Wink
vit d 400 IU
Calcium Citrate 630 MG

Batch sez he goes up to 4X a day with that, I never went higher then 3X, and typically only twice daily. A little over a day later they started backing down and 02 was beating them again.

Hi Dennis.  I think Joe is on the right track with herbal help.  If it were me I would drink some coffee or other caffinated beverage before or during the session.  Since you are off the meds, give the RC seeds a shot over at the busters site??  Probably won't bust your cycle right away, but tends to minimize the kip'ers until they disappear. Thanks Shaggy!

I've have yet to try the CB route and may at some point.  I'm certainly not putting the idea down.  Too many around here have gotten real relief from it.  Not yet though.

I started the herbal recipe yesterday and picked up a bottle of NatureMade.  I hope this is right.

D3 200 I.U.
Calcium 333mg
Magnedium 133mg
Zinc 5mg.

I'm taking 2 at a time twice a day to start with.  If this agrees with my system I'll double that this weekend.

It only has 1/10th the zinc you listed Joe. I didn't see anything on the shelves that provided just Zinc.  I think the other amounts are close enough.

My hits have settled into a solid pattern: 10am, 2pm, 8pm.  O2 @ 25lpm is working flawlessly.  For now I'm able to anticipate the hits because of the regular schedule.  Pain is gone in 5 min.  I stay on another 5 @ 15lpm just to be sure.

I changed my PT sessions to 8am.  Hopefully I'll be able to get through them before the beast comes for his 1st visit of the day.

The other thing I did was to leave some CH info behind on my last visit and followed that up with an e-mail.  Nice folks there that seem to have open minds.

I have an appt tomorrow morning and will talk with them about bringing my e-tank into the facility just in case.

Oh yea, my coffee intake has doubled too.  Anytime I hit the O2 I chase it with a strong cup-o-joe or an energy drink.

I drink my 1st cup of the day around 7ish so it'll be in my system for that early appointment  Cool
