Ah Ruthie I love your guts!

Here's the Joe report:  He had a pretty good night sleep and didn't take any pain meds after the bedtime dose. Woke up feeling pretty good. Tender to the touch but way better than last night. SO MUCH better in fact that he has left me for a couple days to join his brethren for the annual High Holy of Holy days (Annual dove opener). He can't shoot this year, so he'll be on the sidelines with his brother (the one that just had surgery who also can't hunt).

So the two of them will be shooting their rubber-band guns at the dove mobile that our friend made for the injured hunters!

Well hopefully we'll at least have some good pictures.

The pic makes me say, "Awwwwww...." each time I look at it.   I do hope you start to feel better very soon and that the damage to your shoulder is minimal.

And try not to drive Christy crazy.  You men can be such BABIES! Tongue

Rats. Looks not fun Joe.

Bad things do happen to strange good people. You sound better though. It's hard to keep you down, ain't it?

I showed this to Caleb and he's ready to come "protect" his buddy Sgt. Joe.

Joe I KNOW you're hurting, but thanks for showing Caleb what CAN happen... I've been harping on being careful on his bike and he tells me he knows what he's doing.... NOW he SEES what CAN happen (and he thinks you are Superman).

Christy... bless you... you take care of our Joe.. (or stay out of the house - whichever comes first Smiley).

Luv you both...  Kiss

My mother always told me that if I couldn't serve as a shining example, I could serve as a horrible warning.

I think Joe's serving in the latter category for awhile . . . . . Shocked

Hey Barbara - here's a lesson for Caleb: Joe was just doing an "errand" with the bike, as opposed to going for a ride. He looked at the helmet and thought "I don't need that" and then probably thought about it again, and put it on. Given the fact that when he went over the car and landed on his head....and BROKE the helmet.....I'd say the helmet was a good thing to have.

SO the lesson for Caleb, NEVER get on the bike without a helmet.

Well thank God for that.  This could have been much worse.

Having been one of the first people at the scene of a motorbike accident when the rider came off at a bend, half demolishing a wall, I was amazed to see a huge hole about four inches across had been punched into his helmet but it didn't get as far as his skull. His leathers were badly scuffed in a few places too.

But he was alive, which he wouldn't have been if he didn't have his helmet on. Being shaken up, bruised and probably a few broken ribs wasn't too bad in comparison.

I was also amazed as nobody knew any first aid other than me, even when there were about 20 people standing around. A few people were saying things like 'put him in the recovery position' or 'take his helmet off' and 'don't take his helmet off'.

I was really pleased that I'd had some first aid training, even though he wasn't too badly hurt, it could have been vital given it took 20 or so minutes for an ambulance to get to the accident as it was well out in the countryside.
