Wisdom Teeth. Any connection?
Sep 6th, 2010 at 11:23am

I still have all my wisdom teeth. Ive always wondered if having them still contributes to my CH. I started getting CH about the same time I got my wisdom teeth. Do any of you still have yours in? Also Ive wondered if tonsils have anything to do with them. I still have my tonsils too. Please reply I would like to know if there is any connection. Thanks Dan

Sadly no, I don't think having your wisdome teeth has any relationship. My husband had all 4 pulled and he suffers from CH as well.

Both my wisdom teeth and my tonsils have been gone for over 30 years now, and I am starting into another cycle, right on time, so no connection from my end.
Read all the stuff to your left, lots to learn here.

You'll chase a lot of false leads because of the path of the trigeminal nerve. It runs behind the eye.....a lot of people start with the eye doctor.....runs along the jaw bone......a lot of people have teeth pulled in addition to extra dental work.......near as any of the experts can figure...we have a screwed up hypothalamus. We've had it since birth...as illustrated by identical twins who if one gets it....both get it...and it starts at roughly the same point in life!

We've done numerous surveys on this board trying to identify a common denominator, from eye color, to size, to common injuries or lack of...and that doesn't include some of the really weird surveys from sex drives to lack of!!!!.....we've given up! Wink

Best to concentrate our energies on spreading the word about what helps the hurt!

I started getting CH about the same time that I found my first gray hairs - around age 28. Could there be a connection? I suppose...

Daniel, to answer your question, yes, I still have all my wisdom teeth. I don't believe it means anything in relation to cluster headache though. I believe, like many others, that we have something wrong with the hypothalamus.  I wholeheartedly believe this because of how I came to have cluster headaches. I had recurrent inflammatory and demylinating attacks of optic neuritis. If you know much about the anatomy of the brain, you will know that the optic nerves exit the back of the eye and cross at the optic chiasm. Directly below the optic chiasm is the hypothalamus. I believe, as does my doctor, that with the repeated attacks, the hypothalamus was somehow damaged. This is also consistent even with the time of year I get my cluster headaches corresponding with the time of year I had the ON attacks. This is also consistent with a few others who have developed CH after some form of trauma to the head. Others may just be born with some dysfunction of the hypothalamus which leads them to develop CH. Just my two cents.  Smiley

Sooooo many of us (myself included) have had our wisdom teeth yanked, believing they could be a factor, only to find that there's no real connection.

CH according to Bejeeber:

Strictly relying on doctors for CH treatment is often a prescription that will keep you in a whole lot of PAIN. Doctors are WAY behind in many respects, and they are usually completely unaware of the benefits of high flow 100% O2.

There are lots of effective treatments documented at this site. Take matters into your own hands, learn as much as you can here and at clusterbusters.com, put it into practice, then tell this CH beast Jeebs said hello right before you bash him so hard with a swift uppercut knockout punch that his stupid horns go flinging right off.

Had my wisdom teeth pulled about 15 years ago along with two others I all but smashed out with the claw of my hammer, I only started getting CH about this time last year so I don't think it can be connected .

God bless
