A few people do use it for prevention... one Aussie here kept pretty good headache diaries and records of what he took, and he felt pretty secure that it helped him (although it was not a controlled scientific study).
Tablets or powder are much cheaper than any of the beverages, although not as fact acting as having it dissolved ahead of time in a beverage.
Japanese studies on Taurine involving humans (investigating blood pressure and overactive nervous systems) involved 3 to 6 grams per day for several months, with no observed side effects.
Hi that Aussie was me.

This link will take you back to the old board in October 2006 when I was trialing Taurine as a prevent.

Although I had some early success with Taurine it wasn't the silver bullet I was looking for, certainly not as a preventative.
What I did realise over time was that it worked very well as a promoter for other supplements such as Magnesium & Zink in that it makes those supplements more readily absorb-able by the body.
One thing that was really noticeable was the return of my short term memory, I no longer had to write things on sticky notes just to remember what I had to do in 5 min time.
There’s some other interesting things that I come across while I had been reading up on it; Taurine levels are higher in pregnant & lactating mothers & is important in the brain development of the unborn child, what is interesting about this is that some women report that they don’t go into CH cycles while pregnant.
Another interesting thing and this is my opinion only is that if you look at the chemical reaction of Taurine once it hits the bile acids it turns into H2O2 hydrogen peroxide, it appears that this happens very quickly & has a lasting effect.
Effectively as I see it you are getting an extra molecule of oxygen from the reaction & as H2O2 is self oxygen generating it therefore doesn’t scavenge oxygen from the rest of your system.
There was also a report I read where scientists where having some success with treating Alzheimer's patients with Taurine.
Cheers
