what treatment are you currently on?
Sep 26th, 2010 at 3:20am

preventative/abortive

you know for these mild migraines you have and you still are in denial to just take a pill and lay down.

and if you like plus a word maybe on how it is going
for example
good or bad or indifferent or i think it is time to rename ch to orgasm headaches cause in this way the more i get eventually the day could leave a stupid smile on my face that probably i did something useful
and it wasn't totally missed Cheesy

so anyway just curious how others are doing Smiley

I'm going to take your question at face value Wink

Prevent: Testosterone replacement therapy
Abortive: Oxygen with Imitrex injections as a backup

May your hits be light on the Kip scale and your cycle end without further fanfare...

02, hot water bottle and imigran nasal spray  (have got the verap on hand if I decide I can't cope but don't like the fatigue).  Honestly the 02 works wonders and finding that that's pretty much all I need these days (fingers crossed)

Preventative - fungus.

Abortive - Energy drinks and the occasional snort of O2.

Never above a K3, and then only for a few minutes. Life has once again become grand.

Good on you Brew! May we know your fungus frequency and for how long your current state of affairs has been the case for you?

Guiseppi: No question that you can quit taking all that stuff as I'm sure you'll never have another HA. It's over with. Kaput.

My son Michael:

Preventive: Fungus every 10 days or so. HA severity diminished by 80-90%.

Abortive: Methadone - not actually an abortive but rather the only substance found to somewhat mask the HAs. The probable reason for the fungus' lack of success in completely eliminating his HAs. Losing the major portion of his last Rx forcing complete withdrawal over the next week-10 days. Yeah! So sad that he lost his Rx - not.

Last fungus treatment - May 28, 2010, 1g.

Since then I can count on one hand the number of times I've been hit (each one a K3 or less). Keep in mind, too, that I was chronic.

Abortive:  Oxygen at 25lpm with an O2ptimask
5hr Energy  (preference.  can use others also)

Preventative: fungal (I've tried it this summer for the first time - strong shadows were escalating, concerning me that a full blown episode could be imminent. It has pretty much killed the shadows, and it's not possible to know for sure whether it prevented an impending episode, but I intend to take maintenance doses in hopes of warding off future episodes).

For my last 2.5 month long episode 1 year ago:

Preventative: Neurontin 2400 mg a day (reduced number of hits by maybe 40%)

Abortive: Hi flow 100% O2, 1/2 dose (3 mg) imitrex injections or full dose inhaler when needed as a backup, deep breathing of freezing air (the freezing air can abort hits for me during the first week of an episode before the beast comes on really heavy, buying me time to get my O2 set up).

Number of full blown, full length hits I had to suffer through during that episode: zero.

CH according to Bejeeber:

Strictly relying on doctors for CH treatment is often a prescription that will keep you in a whole lot of PAIN. Doctors are WAY behind in many respects, and they are usually completely unaware of the benefits of high flow 100% O2.

There are lots of effective treatments documented at this site. Take matters into your own hands, learn as much as you can here and at clusterbusters.com, put it into practice, then tell this CH beast Jeebs said hello right before you bash him so hard with a swift uppercut knockout punch that his stupid horns go flinging right off.

Preventative: None, thinking of trying fungus

Abortive: 100% high-flow o2, occasionally DHE injections 1mg, or Migranal nasal spray.

I didn't realize so many people here were on testosterone replacement therapy!

This past cycle -

prevent - 240-360mg Verapamil, 25mg lamictal.
abortive - O2 mainly
supplements - magnesium, calcium with D, folic acid.

Usually, don't take lamictal during cycle, but doc wanted to limit the Verapamil secondary to the pregnancy.

Currently, still on the supplements (and will stay on them), but no prevents for almost a week and no hits and/or shadows for over a month!!!   Grin

Prevent: Rivea Corymbosa seeds (25-80) during cycle  every 5 days.  25 seeds every other month out of cycle.
Fungus is always in the freezer as my level  II back up.
The seeds do the trick though (knock on wood).

Abortive: 15 LPM Oxygen

When the PAIN starts, I FIGHT back!

Rivea Corymbosa seeds were my KO punch, now D3 is the front runner!

Preventive measures - melatonin at night, sometimes 4htp and magnesium during the day.

Abortive measures - O2, excedrin migraine (usually the wallgreens brand) amerge or zomig, depending on what my ins co is paying for at the time, uber-hot steamy showers, ice packs, energy drinks, coffee and 4-way nasal spray.
