Gone at 50 what a shame.
Sep 29th, 2010 at 1:58pm

Cry
My girlfriend Nancy grew up with Dianne and even though Dianne lived down in southern California they have stayed close for over 30 years. Dianne had just finished nursing school a year ago and then was diagnosed with lung cancer and yes she was a heavy smoker, she was told she had stage three at the time and had six months to live. Dianne had just gotten her life together and was very happy, she had two kids one in Junior High and one in High School and they both got to watch their mom wither away and die. Dianne was 50 years old far too young to die and both her parents are still alive and it is just not right for a parent to outlive their child. Nancy got the call on Saturday that the doctor had said it would be no more than a week so Nancy and two other of her childhood friends jumped in a car on Sunday and drove over 6 hours to go say goodbye to their friend, a tough thing to do she got back yesterday and Dianne passed this morning, maybe it was saying goodbye to her closest friends that finally made her let go, well she is no longer in pain and is in a much better place but her family could use some prayers if you could spare some and so could Nancy it has been very difficult for her to see such a good friend go like this.
I know not everyone who smokes gets the cancer, my grandma smoked her entire live and lived into her early 90’s and did not die of cancer but I think smoking is like playing Russian roulette with your life since you have no idea if you will be one of the lucky ones or like Dianne. Just food for thought if you are a smoker and I know a lot of you are, it is not a nice way to exit this existence and I am very glad I have never picked up the habit and yes I know that does not make me immune from cancer and I could still get it but it does save me a lot of money not smoking. Cry

Matt

My childhood friend has Breast Cancer and I don't know how long she will be here, so I understand what your GF is going through.  She will never be sorry that she jumped in that car and drove down to see her to say good-bye though.

All my prayers tonight for the family and your GF.

Thanks for the kind words from you guys, sorry to say but someone considered me on a soapbox and giving some sort of lecture I guess about smoking when all I was doing was saying what was in my heart, sorry if I offended anyone and thanks to the one who sent me the message below and making me feel worse than I already do, amazing how uncaring some people can be at a time like this.

I am not going to say who sent this I already feel bad enough about her passing away and the last thing I need is a war with someone on a site I love to be a part of but really did not need this from that person is all.

"Matt - Lifting up one's loved ones in prayer during their time of need is one thing, but I really think you could have stepped off the soapbox. People don't want to be asked for their thoughts and prayers at the same time they're being lectured."

If anyone else feels the same I am sorry did not mean to preach about smoking it was not my intent at all.

Don't worry about it Matt. Some on here just have to lecture others about most anything.

Of course the person that called you out for lecturing....lectures you.

My prayers for your girlfriend and the family of the deceased.

You don't have to apologize for anything Matt because you did nothing wrong.

The truth hurts sometimes.

I'm very sorry to hear this Matt. The saddest part of life is that, it ends, and for many, far too soon.

And whoever 'lectured' you... doesn't matter. An ass will be an ass. Just tell them to kiss yours, but please brush their teeth first. You don't want your bum to smell like smoke!

Peace & Vibes,
Carl D

Sorry for the loss of one so young.  Thoughts going out to your girlfriend and the family involved.

As to your post.  I certainly didn't see it as being on a *sopabox*.   Of course that might have something to do with the fact that I've got 5 years behind me smoke free.

I know that it's hard when someone is so mean; that's why the coward sent you a personal message and not a reply on the board, because I personally would have ripped their ars a part Angry...

Matt.. I saw nothing offensive in your post... I did not consider your words a lecture. I consider them to be words of concern for your (CH) family

Please give Nancy my condolence and I will lift you both up in Prayers; as well as her best friends family...

Peace & Blessings
