Looking for: CH neurologist in San Diego
Sep 30th, 2010 at 4:18pm

Hi everyone,

I recently  moved to San Diego and have yet to establish a neuro. I'm not in cycle, but want to have things lined up for when the next one comes. I'm nearly 1 year PF, but I don't expect it to last. Not that I'm taking this time for granted or anything... Smiley

I remember coming across a list on this site years ago which had a list of neuros familiar with CH's in different cities.

I just spent some time trying to find out with various search keywords but came up empty. I also looked at the different sticky subjects but didn't see it there.

Can anyone point me to the list, or can anyone recommend a neuro in the San Diego area? I live near UTC / La Jolla (for those who know San Diego) and recently switched to Anthem/Blue Cross HMO. I already obtained a referral to a neuro through my primary care physician - now I just want to find one that's dealt with CH's, and wont' think I'm crazy when I ask for O2 and high flow rates Smiley

Thanks,
Ryder

LOCATING HEADACHE SPECIALIST

1. Search the OUCH site (button on left) for a list of recommended M.D.s.

2. Yellow Pages phone book: look for "Headache Clinics" in the M.D. section and look under "neurologist" where some docs will list speciality areas of practice.

3.  Call your hospital/medical center. They often have an office to assist in finding a physician. You may have to ask for the social worker/patient advocate.

4. Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register; On-line screen to find a physician.

5. Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register Look for "Physician Finder" search box. They will send a list of M.D.s for your state.I suggest using this source for several reasons: first, we have read several messages from people who, even seeing neurologists, are unhappy with the quality of care and ATTITUDES they have encountered; second, the clinical director of the Jefferson (Philadelphia) Headache Clinic said, in late 1999, that upwards of 40%+ of U.S. doctors have poor training in treating headache and/or hold attitudes about headache ("hysterical female disorder") which block them from sympathetic and effective work with the patient; third, it's necessary to find a doctor who has experience, skill, and a set of attitudes which give hope of success. This is the best method I know of to find such a physician.

6. Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register NEW certification program for "Headache Medicine" by the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties, an independent, non-profit, professional medical organization.
Since this is a new program, the initial listing is limited and so it should be checked each time you have an interest in locating a headache doctor.

I am currently using Doctor Yu Cheng, 8851 Center Drive in La Mesa, 619-667-4545. His first question to me was do I have high flow oxygen for my abortives. He is a neurologist who specializes in headaches, younger man, very intelligent, slight language issue as he is Chinese and has a heavy accent.

I like the fact that he sits down with you, listens to you, takes his time, and makes you feel comfortable.

Oh, Joe! How rare is this quality of medicine today.
Forty-years ago I had an internist who worked this way: came into the room, sat down, crossed his leg hold a note pad and pen, and was silent! He didn't start "doing" until I had outlined why I was even there.

Now, we have evolved to the point where we deny the right to have health care....
