is coming here!  It will be at the Chennault (of the Flying Tigers) museum for the Veterans Day program.  The actual procession will start in Rayville LA (and I just happened to be scheduled to work there that day!).

I found out the day AFTER it was here.  The newspaper didn't think it was news beforehand!  Was at the one in DC a number of years ago.  Very sobering!  I have a tremendous amount of gratitude for those who gave their lives for us, as well as those who also gave of their lives for us.  Both paid a tremendous price that cannot be repaid.

From the article:
Quote:
The wall is a three-fifth scale replica of the Vietnam Memorial in Washington. It stands 6 feet tall and stretches 300 feet from end-to-end when assembled.

So it's "just" a scaled down version and it's still 300 feet long. That really puts a lot of things in perspective.

It also made me wonder if there is going to be a national memorial for all those lost in Iraq and Afghanistan?

I had the honor of standing guard for "The Traveling Wall" when it stopped in the town where I was stationed.  A few years ago.

Perspective was something too big for my broken brain. There are so very many names on each panel. Each name a baby, a bratty kid, a high school lover. A life cut short.

Yeah Jerry, Sobering.

I've not yet seen the Vietnam Veterans Memorial but it's something I'd like to see if I ever visit Washington.

However I've visited graveyards in France from the First World War. It's quite a sight to see what looks to be endless row after row of gravestones. Equally humbling is visiting small churches in villages both in NZ and the UK where you see memorials to those who gave their lives, realising the scale of the sacrifices.

As it says on many memorials - "lest we forget".
