pre cluster headaches?
Nov 4th, 2010 at 7:57am

I started working out again the other day to drop the weight I gained, until the beast came to visit once again last night.  But in the aftermath I came to a strange realization/memory.  When I ran track in high school prior to the beginning of my personal suffering a few years later, I would run the mile, and after I gave everything I had, I remember that I would have severe headaches that would last about 10 minutes.  I don't really remember the specifics, except that they hurt pretty bad.  It was just an interesting memory that sparked up in my mind for no reason other than i have been working out the last few days.  I was wondering if anyone could tell me if these were some sort of weird precursor of things to come years later or just completely unrelated, random weirdness of my particular body.  Thanks!

They may or may not be cluster related. How's that for a "dodge the question stand?"  But, many do experience early onset of CHs as random attacks without too much of a pattern. It's when they settle into that "cluster" or pattern and persist that we know we have to do something. Blessings. lance

Lol thanks!  It was just a weird realization that I had.  I was maybe 13 or 14 then, and they actually began in earnest when i was 17.  Something I was just curious about, no real urgent meaning is being drawn from it.  Thanks though

jared i first started getting cluster at age 11. at that age they felt like a moderate sinus headache. i have 4-5 years remission between cycles. so at 15 16 years old my hits were more frequent and a little more severe. every cycle my attacks get more frequent and more severe. last cycle was january of 08. this cycle i was up to the point of not sleeping for 4 or 5 days and the hit came 1 to 2 hours apart unless i tried to sleep then they came within 30 to 45 minutes. the one thing i found that suppressed attacks was cold weather and physical activity

Have you talked with your Dr about this?  I know exercise can trigger an attack with some of us, but that is one I would want to have checked out thoroughly.  There are other issues that are similar to CH, but they can be very problematic.  Please get it checked.

I don't think it was a trigger this times, because it was 12 hours after the fact.  When I was a kid it was instantaneous.  I do kind of think there is some sort of connection, however.  I'll ask the doc for sure!Smiley

I know my first few hits were pretty random and it was about a year after I started getting them that they actually fell into a cycle.  I would get like three in a week then nothing for months at a time.  But that was almost 20 years ago.  They've been pretty darned regular since then. Wink

Triptans cause increased number of hits and increased intensity.  Learn it, believe it, live it.  I use triptans as the absolute LAST RESORT when treating my CH.&&

Yeah I hate to say I seem to be much more regular now at the moment.  Keep hoping that my abortive stuff will work so my preventative stuff has time to work, if indeed it does!Smiley
