Melatonin
Nov 9th, 2010 at 3:17pm

Good afternoon my friends:
I am glad I am here as a new member. It feels so good that somebody else understands the pain.

I was wondering your experience about Melatonin. My new neuro Doc is recommending me to use it and I am a littl bit afraid to cut down my Prednisone rigth nw (in the middle if my attack period).

She is recc 3 to 4 mg daily. any ideas? Thanks,
ilnetto

9-15 mg is the preferred dose range, take it about 30 mins to an hour before bed and it might let you sleep through the night.  It works for some, not for others, but is definitely worth a try.

Triptans cause increased number of hits and increased intensity.  Learn it, believe it, live it.  I use triptans as the absolute LAST RESORT when treating my CH.&&

It sounds as if you're taking prednisone on a steady basis rather than as a taper. Most of us have experience with the pred taper (starting at a high level and working down daily, gradually) but in any case, don't stop on your own. Work the pred down if your tapering and I don't know of any reason why you can't take the melatonin, too. Especially if your doc has recommended it. Giuseppi (Joe) had a running post on who takes how much, and how it related to body size and weight. Agostino has summed it up pretty well, I take 15mg/night, but you might want to search for that thread, or pm Joe, if you're curious. Good luck, and God bless! lance
