Traveling and flying??
Nov 20th, 2010 at 1:52pm

How does everyone deal with traveling espeicially flying? Does everyone carry your oxygen and injections? I am sure you do but I have never been in this situation where I need to fly somewhere and wonder how I can get my oxygen bottle and injections on a plane if I may need them. I have until December 27. I hope the cycles of the CH may have broke by then but either way I have to be prepared to have my oxygen and imitrix injections if I need them. Has anyone been able to take an oxygen bottle on a plane, and injections in your carry on?  Since these bad headaches have started it has been on my mind how I will deal with this trip to San Deigo.

Imitrex injectables are no problem, I've had them inspected by TSA a couple of times, no problem. Oxygen, another story. Since it's basically a bomb!! Cheesy Check with your airline and see if they have some allowance they can make. Then figure out if your 02 supplier has an outlet in San Diego where you can get 02 while you're here.

If that doesn't work, PM me your flight details and I'll meet you at the airport with 2-4 E-Tanks you can use while you're in town. Either way, lemme know when you'll be here we'll meet for a .......a non alcoholic, non CH inducing drink! Wink

When I can't carry oxygen I carry a couple of 5hr Energy bottles with me.  They are small enough to take on a plane, and I get pretty good relief if I get to it at the first signs of an attack.  They don't totally kill a bad hit, but will bring it down to a functional level.

Take Joe up on his offer!  He's definitely worth the meet whether you need his O2 or not.

If your hits are regular and you are worried about getting slammed while in the air you could ask your Dr for a few Frovatriptan pills.  They don't work to abort an attack because the onset of action is 3 hours.  But they can buy you up to 24 hours of PF time.  That's usually enough to get you where you are going.

You can't mix this with any other triptan.  You can take two in 24 hours.

I use them when I fly because I know I'm going to get hit with half an hour of touchdown.  It's an altitude thing with me.  I just make sure I take it 3 hours before we're scheduled to land.

Where there is life, there is hope.
Where there is Oxygen, you must use proper caution.
So be safe, don't smoke while using O2. Kill the pain and not yourself.

Thanks everyone for the replies and helpful info. I have been down and out the last couple of days. Got hit hard the last couple of days. Thank God for oxygen and imitrix injections.
Joe, thanks for the offer. I am up in the air now if I will be able to make the trip to San Diego. All depends on how the next few weeks go with these headaches.
Thanks again
