does this make sence to anyone?
Dec 3rd, 2010 at 7:41am

Hi Guy,

I was diagnosed with having CH about 3 weeks ago (never suffered with headaches of any kind before this). last episode of very bad pain was tue night. Since then I've had almost constant pains (but mild/moderate severity) on the left hand side of my face (same point when i was have full blown pain). This has carried on and intensives around the same time each day and night. Still waking me up at the same times and the thought goes through my head that oh S*** here we go again, but then it dies down and is just mild/moderate pain.

any ideas as to what is going on? My doctor doesn't work thurs/fri so I have to wait until mon before I can see her again.

thanks,

Tom

Yeah, you're describing how I feel my "shadows." The beast is there, I feel the pressure in my ear, the tension starts in my neck, and the dull ache starts behind my eye. But it doesn't build to a full blown CH attack.

Have you started on any preventative meds? Some have found when they first start on verapamil, the full blown attacks stop but the shadows become more prevalent. Do you have oxygen yet? It's talked about a LOT on the board because it works so damned well! I use it on my shadows too, it's pretty effective against those.

Have you tried energy drinks for those milder attacks? Rock Star Monster, any containing caffiene and at least 1000 mg of taurine. Try chugging one when you feel one of those milder attacks starting.

"Somebody had to say it" is usually a piss poor excuse to be mean.

Joe's right; we call these things shadows. But I'm starting to wonder if they aren't a bit like Braxton-Hicks contractions; you know, kinda a practice for the real thing. The truth is, they are real and need to  be taken just as seriously. Line up your abortives real quick as Joe indicated: O2, energy drinks, and a Rx for imitrex/imigran. Hang in there, and keep us informed! Blessings. lance

Your first lesson in CH: they don't make sense. Whatever you are experiencing, that's your reality. Sucks.
