Cayenne Pepper saved me :)
Dec 6th, 2010 at 3:49pm

Hello Everyone!

If you are a sufferer of cluster headaches you will know that you will pretty much try anything, to see if it works, to make these debilitating awful attacks from ever coming back.  Here is what I have tried, and nothing worked as good as the last one!!

(www) Water treatment seamed to ease the pain slightly.  I had a hard time drinking a full glass of water every 30 min. Although I think that is why it helps , while urinating I felt some relief from the cluster headache pain.

Sumatriptan, IMITREX, etc etc - Nasal spray - seamed to work pretty good although not completely pain free, and there are some concerns regarding long term nasal spray applications. It actually tastes bitter & horrible & constantly drips down your throat, yuk!

Magic Mushrooms - Yes i did say I would try anything to make them go away!  I had access to some Liberty Caps (UK local mushrooms) - My attack cycle starts October 23 @ 10:30 am - 2:30pm for 10 days - it stopped my attacks for 2 whole days! And then the beast returned , GRRRR! I couldn't just keep tripping!!!! I run several business and have a big family to look after. So the hunt for the right treatment continued.

Coffee and Caffeine Tablets -  Seem to reduce intensity, but not by a lot.

Cayenne Pepper *****(Capsicum) Yes this worked a treat! *****In fact this is my preferred way to beat the Vicious Cluster Headache! *****I ingested 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper on food or in water.

This would give me 100% PAIN RELIEF for 50-60 minutes!!! AAHHHH!!! Simply eat another 1/2 a teaspoon and your free again Smiley  my attacks last for 4 hours, so i would repeat 4 times.

Its actually amazing how the pain instantly goes away! If you suffer from Cluster headaches you must try this treatment!

The secret in how capsicum works in its ability to desensitize the sensory neurons within the Trigeminal nerve branches. Capsicum does this by depleting the nerve terminals of a chemical called “Substance P”, the chemical your body produces which activates the nerve fibers that cause swelling and pain throughout your sinus cavity and head.

This is why when you eat spicy food usually containing hot peppers, your sinuses open up wide. It’s not the peppers themselves, but the chemical (capsicum) excreted by the peppers.

As a cluster headache sufferer who found his solution, I felt obliged to share my experience if it can help you GREAT!

GOOD LUCK!

MAGNUS

Glad it works for you. I couldn't handle the mexican heartburn though. This may work, but 02 will do the same thing better without the burn. Thanks for passing that on though.

This shows me that you have no clue how psychedelics work in the treatment of this condition.

Keep eating your peppers. Buen apetito.

First of all....welcome Magnus to the board.
We are all aware of everything that you have mentioned in your arsenal. Plus much more.

Please read the info here that we have collected for the last 10 years. Especially 02. Why endure a 4 hour cluster and take your cayenne pepper every hour when for most on here, using 02 at onset will knock most down in 10 minutes.

Also as Brew stated....your mushroom use appears to not have been done correctly.

I'm thinking something smells a little funny about this post.  Had he been trying to sell the stuff I'd say so for sure.

Besides agreeing with the others...I've been chronic for 24 years now and I have never had a CH that lasted for 4 hours.

Please do what we tell all the newcomers to this board, read, read, read around this site.   Together over the last 12 years, we probably have thousands of years of experience with this condition of ours.  Capsacin is nothing new here.

Hey , thanks for the welcome! I was only trying to share my experience with everyone, didnt have any o2 to hand, by the time it arrived the 10 days was up. I have it in the cupboard ready for next year.  Also I really think the cayenne pepper is a great alternative in an emergency were you do not have o2. I didnt know o2 stops the whole attack, is this correct? thanks

Take a second and read the oxygen info tab on the left. I'm a 32 year CH'er, episodic, I can abort in about 6-8 minutes. That's actually a very common experience with 02. Cheap, no side effects, fast, convenient, really hard to beat!

Welcome to the board, pull up a seat and start reading like crazy. An educated CH'er hurts a lot less! Wink

For more info on the mushroom stuff, visit   clusterbusters.com     they've taken alternative therapies to an art form!

Yes, absolutely.   Like Joe, I can abort an attack in 10 mins. or less.  So can many many many others here, providing I get on it before it gets too far.  Middle of the night hits sometimes take a lot longer because by the time it wakes you up...it's almost gone past the point of no return.   Taking 02 at the very first twinge is imperative.

5-8 mins start to finish for me at 25 lpm.

I have a question though about a 10 day cycle.  I'm not saying it can't be, but even in my ECH days I would have killed to be done in 10 days, and I went without any treatment for years.  Have you been properly diagnosed by a headache specialist?  My concern is you have something else that is mimicking CH.  That could be potentially serious.  Mind you, I'm not stirring stuff up.  I'm really serious about that.  I don't know of anyone else who has had that short of a cycle.

Excuse me but who diagnosed you? A Neurologist, a headache specialist?

Mis-diagnosis is common for CH, if you haven't allready pls read up on modern CH treatments for your own best interest.

There have been some significant studies regarding the use of capsacin for both CHs and migraines. It seems the results are mixed. Regarding the original post, much of it appears to be from this website:

just wanted to throw this in my Smiley
you can eat mushrooms for 2 days but when the does wears off the attacks may return. in order to give the mushrooms a fair chance to work you will need to give it a week or two without the meds. o2 is a good abortive during this time. the meds cancel out the effects of the mushrooms.

also. you dont need to eat enough mushrooms to "trip" to get the effectiveness of this treatment. small doses over a period of time should be sufficient. this is also something you can do and go to sleep unlike LSD.

hope this helps

you'll have to excuse our skeptics. theres a guy that gets on here every once and a while that sells this nasal spray made from peppers claiming it to be the cure for our condition. so when a new member starts out with a post about peppers it always throw up a red flag
