Liquid Oxygen

My oxygen deliverer gave me liquid oxygen at the beginning of this cycle. I didn't ask for it--they just gave it to me. The oxygen comes out very cold. I don't know if I am imagining this (I don't think I am) but it seems to work quite a bit better, faster than regular oxygen. If I had a choice, I would pick this liquid oxygen. Don't know if this could help anyone.

Are you sure you've got liquid oxygen? This will boil at −297.33 °F, so it's extremely cold.

However even with a normal cylinder, after using it for a few minutes you'll find the cylinder gets pretty cold as the gas gets the energy used for expanding from being compressed to atmospheric pressure by cooling the remaining oxygen and the tank.

Our President of O.U.C.H., (organization for understanding Cluster Headaches), Helen Williams AKA, LeLimey, has used liquid O2 for years in the U.K.

You may want to contact her thru this site or the OUCH site. The good thing is O2 is O2, so kick the beast's butt......

The method (mask, LPM, etc.) are the most important things for proper CH O2 use.

Yep, I'm definitely sure it's liquid oxygen lol, although that sounds freaky about the low boiling point! That is really interesting about the president of OUCH using liquid O2. I am using it at 15 lpm. Only thing I can say for certain is that it is very comforting when I use it to have the oxygen coming out cold. I think it may speed abort times but not sure. They also gave me a portable regular oxygen tank but I haven't used it b/c I like the cold air from the liquid O2. Not sure why they gave me liquid O2 but not complaining! Maybe I'll ask my doc when I see him today.

It can be transferred to an insulated bottle, but it won't last more than I few days I'd guess.

I dunno it's not plugged in it just says "Oxygen Refrigerated Liquid" on the tank. It's a weird looking tank and when I use it a little bit of steam?? or fog?? (that is what it looks like) seeps out of the edge around the top (that kind of freaked me out at first but it is harmless). Maybe some new kind of tank. I just like it cause it comes out cold

I don't know - maybe they've improved the thermos bottles to the point where it will keep it liquid for a long time. Stranger things have happened, I guess.

Also, if there's one thing I remember from high school physics class, it's that the expansion of a gas is a cooling process. Something about more space between the molecules, so they don't bounce off each other as hot and heavy. The opposite is also true - when you compress a gas, it heats up.

I posted last week about having left my tank in the car and killing a hit in about 3 mins. The cold made a big difference to me. I wouldn't say anything to the Dr. He might take it away from you! The tank definitely freaked me out at first--it is weird especially when I went to use it and steam/fog was coming out lol! I think I am an airhead when it comes to the chemistry of the whole matter--I just hope it doesn't turn into a spaceship--the last thing I need is to go into orbit with a CH

Calico, that is too funny about not telling the doc b/c that thought actually entered my head--what if they take it away? No, I'm not paranoid or anything! That is really interesting that when your tank got cold in the car it worked better cause I was wondering if I was imagining the cold helping. Seems like if it does they should give CHers this stuff--the cold O2. Drew I am glad you can keep your tank cold in the garage. Mike, wouldn't surprise me if I go into orbit at this point
