I hear ya Jeannie. I fight the "Grinchies" every year.

We have nine family birthdays clustered around Christmas ($$$), my hubby works for Santa's biggest elf, most of our extended family has no idea what the season really means and thus are clueless and greedy, and people are just awful to each other in public - rude, nasty, clueless, and self absorbed.

I like the idea of staying in hiding until January 1st.

Last Sunday I went to the Church service of a friend of mine and the pastor played a video for us that he had come across.

The song was called "Where's the line to see Jesus."

Apparently a young lad was with grandparents standing in a line to see Santa when he asked that question and his aunt wrote the song.

Bit of a reminder of what it should be all about.

I agree with the distaste for the season, but I'm extremely grateful for the reason. It is easy to get depressed seeing all that goes on this time of year, and especially in the last few years since going chronic and undergoing some financial challenges, but I try to turn my attention to the purpose of the season that has nothing to do with all the commercialism. I put my focus on Easter, which required Christmas to make it happen. That changes everything.

I agree with you Charlie! Alistair Sims has always defined Scrooge for me. I've seen other good performances, but they fall short of him. He was believable in his portrayal.

Jeannie- I admit, I'm one of those Christmas addicts. I adore the holidays, and as a rule, am planning the next year as I am cleaning up the dishes from Christmas dinner!
My joy is over the family gatherings, finding that special gift for someone(rarely from a garishly decorated big box store)...listening to the music and seeing the glee in everyone's children.
We stopped making it a commercial Christmas years ago, and enjoy being together more than anything.
Gil( my husband) is in retail... he is the first to arrive to open the store on Black Friday, and the last in the store on Christmas Eve..so, at the very least... Christmas means my husband can rest.
Gil is retiring in 2011... maybe next year, we'll take the family on a cruise for Christmas.....
The rule is, make it what you WANT it to be- and if you don't want any part of it, make it disappear......

I wish you a very merry.............uhh.... Dec 25th- and all the best in the New Year to come!

This is why I just love x-mas (not) I just paid off my toys r us charge card in October from last year. It now sits at 800 dollars for this year, on the way to 12 hundred.. Why so much you ask?

12 Grandkids (yes 12)
6 nephews and niece's under 17 years old.

I could buy a lot of Red Bull for 12 hundred bucks

X-Mas is OK,I just dont enjoy it like I used to?????
