It was very sad to open up facebook and read this today. I have fond memories of Jim and our sharing an order of fried pickles when he came to visit me here in Dallas. He was a very memorable person with a love for life. I know that a few of you here know him as well so I thought you all should know.
From the Delco Times:
James F. (“Jim”) Lafferty of Springfield, 40, passed away Dec. 1, 2010 at home after fighting a courageous battle with prostate cancer. True to his nature, he never lost his upbeat, positive attitude . When asked how he was, Jim would always reply, “You know me. I’ve never had a bad day.”
...Jim did not let his illness define him, instead he passionately promoted prostate cancer awareness. Jim walked for three years in the “Gary Papa Run 4 Your Life” run/walk in Philadelphia. This past June, when Jim participated in the walk, despite his pain, he was the top fundraiser for the third year in a row. He also shared his experiences and advice for others battling the disease.
Jim graduated from Malvern Preparatory School, Class of 1990 and from Green Mountain College in Poultney, Vermont Class of 1994 and made lifelong friends at both.
He was an owner and Sales Manager at Pennsylvania Machine Works in Aston where he worked alongside family and friends every day.
He was also a talented drummer in bands, playing with both Bigg Romeo and Love Train. He loved being on stage with both.
Jim’s beloved wife Jen and 5 yr old son Gavin were his daily inspiration. Despite any pain he felt, he always found a smile and words of encouragement for them both. He was outgoing, loving, selfless and passionate about life.
He loved his family and friends, music, the Eagles, spending time in Avalon, NJ, cooking out, parties and enjoying the company of friends. Jim’s presence would always “light up a room.”
Jim is survived by his loving and supportive wife Jennifer (nee Fulton) and beloved son Gavin, both of Springfield, parents Ronald and Suzanne (nee Keenan) Lafferty of Newtown Square, brother Ron (Dean) Lafferty of Springfield, sister Suzanne (Ron) Flynn of West Chester, father-in-law and mother-in-law, Lee and Denise Fulton of Springfield, sister-in-law Stephanie (Stephen) Lucas of Springfield, nieces and nephews Jaimie, Mandi, Timmy, Erin, Connor, Sean, Ava and Charlie.
All services were held this week at St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church, Saxer Avenue, Springfield. A Funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday. Burial was at Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Sproul Rd., Marple Twp.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Jim’s name can be sent to The Four Diamonds Fund to help children battling cancer at: A120, PO Box 852, Hershey, PA 17033-0852
