A Newbie Success Story
Dec 14th, 2010 at 4:08pm

Hi all,

A Newbie Success Story

Sorry I have been away for a while but since I’ve had the beast under control I’ve been getting on with my life thanks to everyone here. Here is an update of my situation. I am still in cycle and the O2 therapy works great. 10 LPM with an oxygen concentrator works well for me.  I just breathe in through my nose and exhale though my mouth just like the Wii Fit yoga sessions. My Doctor says that once your O2 level is at 100 % there’s no sense hyperventilating because that’s as high as you can get it. I believe the key is to get onto the O2 quickly, stay calm and breathe properly and this works for me. I take ELAVIL 10MG once before bedtime and the night hits have dropped off dramatically and I go some days with no hits at all. Also the Red Bull works if I’m out and have no O2 available it just take longer. I have ZOMIG RAPIMELT 2.5MG as a backup but have not needed to take one as of yet, touch wood.  I got all this information from this site and I would like to thank you all. To the other Newbie’s, keep reading and I know for sure you will find what works for you.

Hi Brew,

I can abort in about 5 min, but I don't waste any time, I'm onto it at the first sign and try to stay as calm as I can, normal breaths, with a non rebreather mask. I keep the O2 on for another 5 min after it’s gone just to be sure it doesn’t come back any time soon. I have had 75 hits since 08 Sep (I keep a log now), none over 10 min long and none over KIP 5. Normally I would have 5 or 6 a day, KIP 8, 9 & 10 lasting 30 min to 2 hours. No more Hospital trips touch wood again.

Glad to hear you can get a good abort time on a flow of 10 lpm.  Takes more than that for most of us.

It's great the rest of your regimen is working so well for you.  Long may it continue.   Smiley

Best wishes,

George

Hi George,

Thanks for the comment. It should also be noted that I have had CH’s since I was a teenager, I am now 56. My remissions have been getting longer, the last was 6 years. It may be that as I get older the attacks are less severe. Had I known about these types of treatments 6 years ago, would 10 LPM have worked? Who knows? I will never know because I’m not going to stop the O2 to find out.

The difference for me between 15lpm and 25 was astounding to me.   You might want to "UP" that regulator.

I think most of us hold out hope that we will in some way "outgrow" the beast. I went from episodic to chronic 3 years ago after 23 years of seasonal cycles. Now, I'm in a sort of remission, and I am also hoping that these diminish with age. I do know this site saved my butt and the current regimen worked out here has been effective in reducing hits to very manageable proportions. Glad you're having success. It makes you feel like a brandy new person, eh? Blessings. lance
