cold water treatment
Dec 26th, 2010 at 7:35pm

I'm new and haven't even read any of the other posts, so forgive me if I'm repeating old news.

I used to have cluster headaches. I can't guarantee that they stopped simply because they somehow ran their course. But I am quite sure they stopped (and haven't returned for 10+ years) because of the cold water treatment I used.

It had been a couple years (the normal span for me) with no attacks when I felt them starting to come on again. On the first three occasions, I immediately went to the bathroom sink and repeatedly, for 5-10 minutes, cupped cold water in my hands up to my nose and inhaled the water enough to make it go up a little ways into the nasal cavity....sometimes only splashing the cold water around my nose and eyes.

The cold water gives some immediate relief. But even better, on all three of those occasions, the cluster headache never went full bore. By the last time I did it, it stopped it completely. They've never returned

Cold normally makes mine worse, but for some it helps.  Please read the O2 info.  I'm thinking you will be needing something a bit stronger next time around, although I surely hope not!

Hoping you're correct and the beast has left you! We have several members who haven't had attacks in many years still crossing their fingers. The experts in the field say you're never really "cured" just have really long remissions.

Book mark this site and visit now and then, keep reading up on the latest and greatest....currently oxygen!!!... so heaven forbid the beast tries to find you again, you'll have a working knowledge to deal with him.

Wishing you peace and pain free times ahead.

Joe

I couldn't appreciate Potter's humor until I looked up 'Neti Pot' in Wikipedia. There I learned that there are "more advanced 'pulsatile devices' which mechanically pump the saline." Now I'm laughing. Thanks Potter.

I played around with cold water my first cycle, both by chugging it and a cold shower hitting me in the face.  It kinda worked as a bit of a distraction, but in the end I was just wet and still in pain.
