Verapamil Info please
Jan 7th, 2011 at 4:59am

Hi again,
I recently asked about the use of verapamil on the site & would like to thank everyone for their replies.
Now I am on 800mg per day but am still getting attacks. Over the next week I am working my way up to the max dose of 960mg. Sometimes a daily attack but definitely a major one during the night. Is this about right or should the amount of verapamil I'm taking stop them altogether?
Any information would be really appreciated.
Tony.

No amount of any medication known will stop them all together but with prevent medication the number and intensity should diminish over time.  It takes weeks to get the right amount of verapamil in your system to work more effectively.

Hang in there!!

What Ginger said. And, keep the effective abortives going. The faster a hit is aborted, the less "hold" they seem to have. Try melatonin at night; energy drinks at the first sign of a hit (although careful not to exceed one drink/day with the verapamil) and huff, and puff, and consume large quantities of O2. God bless! lance

I use lithium, it blocks 60-70% of my attacks, that's succesful in my book! It'd be nice to find a med that blocks them 100% of the time, we're just not there yet. Hang in there.

When I was using Verap and Lithium together if I blocked 50 % I was happy.  They did diminish the other hits though somewhat.
