Caffeine
Jan 16th, 2011 at 11:29pm

So I have tried everything. Imitrex works most of the time. O2 works not so well. Im not a coffee drinker but the last two nights I have drank a big cup of coffee before bed and I didnt get any headaches in the night.......couldnt sleep but no headaches. I'd rather have no sleep than the pain any day. Anyone else had luck with caffeine to stop these damn things?

Welcome to the board, as far as trying "everything", when you get a chance, go into specifics. There are so many newer treatments, I'd be suprised if there weren't a few you haven't heard of yet. If you haven't already done so, read this oxygen info thread. HOW you use 02 is critical to it's success or failure. Using 02 I abort the majority of my attacks in 6-8 minutes.

As to caffiene, many use strong coffee as an abortive. We've found that energy drinks actually do a better job. Rock Star, Monster, any containing the combo of caffiene and taurine. Combining the taurine with the caffiene seems to turbo charge the caffiene. I combine a Red Bull with my oxygen, the 02 kills it, the Red Bull keeps the beast at bay for several hours.

Also check this website, it details alternative treatments, outside of mainstream medicine:

keep in mind you can build up an immunity to caffeine.  try not to use it as a preventative.

I too will use it as a prevent sometimes, but that is during the day.  I will say though that I've built up such an immunity that I can drink a pot before bed and sleep like a baby.  I wake up every two hours and cry for 15 mins. Grin  When in high cycle 2-3 pots a day is not unusual.  Won't stop them, but it does cut them down and less intense.

I also was one who said O2 didn't work well for me until I was convinced to try it at 25 lpm with an O2ptimask.  Worlds of difference!  I can kill a hit within 5-8 mins now.  I recommend you give it another try.  Go even higher than 25 lpm if you can.  people are getting amazing results.

I tried the water technique and it seemed to keep them away for 5 days(altho i was peeing like a race horse!!). I am now drinking red bull in the day to try and keep them away. i had 2 cans yesterday and didnt get any pain last night. have had 2 cans today when i have felt one coming and so far nothing. so im hoping this might work. altho i didnt want to take anything so i know when the yare gone they are gone by themselves and not because meds or caffeine are masking them. Hope you find a treatment that works for you soon.

Caffeine never did me any harm! I also found that I had shorter hits while doing something strenuous. Anything that required lots of circulation. I believe it's why I rarely had hits while walking around, which by necessity, I do a great deal. Caffeine certainly affects circulation too.
