Chantix and Cluster Headaches
Jan 20th, 2011 at 2:57pm

Going to try and stop smoking---long overdue. My GP prescribed Chantix to help me. I am in cycle right now. Unfortunately the longest cycle I have ever had. Anyone else try Chantix in cycle? I would be curious to hear about your experience.

Hi Drew
I have used it but not in cycle.
It interfered with my sleep something bad & went 10 nights without sleep, when I did sleep after those 10 nights the Beatles Magical Mystery Tour had nothing on the places I went but I did give up the fags.

Cheers
Barry

I was battling the beast something rotten at the time and found they had no effect on it one way or another. Haven't had a smoke now for two years, one month, 3 weeks, 2 days and 10.5 hours and it doesn't bother me a bit.

I know several people who have tried Chantix and will tell you that the *experience* they had was not good (mind altering and mood altering).

Have you given any thought to trying Zyban/Wellbutrin?  I used Wellbutrin to help me quit and  I've been smoke free since Feb. 28, 2005 (and I was a heavy smoker).

I tried Zyban - not good - hives all over my entire body.   I've heard not so good things about Chantix as well.

Did quiting smoking effect your headaches at all? My Doc told me he bet if I quit smoking the headaches would stop. I told him I didn't think it would be that easy.

I quit smoking four years ago this March 1st. The chronic coughing stopped, but not the episodic headaches.

I found that chantix did help quit smoking for a while but the hits increased so i stopped chantix and had a smoke Smiley i believe that nicotene is a vasoconstricter smoking is a doubled edge sword. i am going to try again i think but my doc agreed with my conclusion and said use patches and lozenges. that some nicotene is still in my system to keep the beast happy while i break the habit. will it who knows Smiley

I'm with Racer on this one.....   I quit smoking for 12 years.   It made no difference at all to my CH.

No joy at all regarding CH, Drew, but thanks for asking. Mind you, I now have lots more money for my favourite social activity.

I see everyone talk about a possible relation between smoking and CH's. How about Chewing tobacco? Would that have the same effect or no? I smoked for 13 years but have since quit and now I have been chewing for 4 years. I dont chew all that much. A can will last me at least a week. I really dont believe nicotine or at least chewing tobacco is a trigger but I have noticed that if I have a CH, about 1-4 in the Kip scale and I have a chew, it seems to make it worse. Has anyone noticed any significant correlation between their CH's and their nicotine habit?  Huh

Drew, quitting smoking will likely have no affect on CH. As a matter of fact, I got my 1st CH cycle 3 years after I quit smoking in my early 20's.
