As a P.S. to my last posting:
I have a strong craving to look for hours at the blue sky on bright sunny days (we don't get many of them here in Central Ohio in the Winter).  Or, on overcast days, to stare at my 400 watt grow light.  Does anyone out there have this similar craving?
-Thanks

Hi Glassman,
Welcome to the forum!
I read something here regarding our 'Circadian' clock and would assume that Daylight/Sunlight is tied in to it. Now if we could get PC monitors to emit that wavelength, we'd all be as happy as Larry!
Your grow light is the same as a 'Sad light box', am I right here?

As an untreated newbie, I am not experienced enough to comment on your Meds, but I'm sure there will be some along soon!
Regards

Gary

Thanks for the warm welcome, Gary.  The grow light is for my orchids.  Just looked up The Sad Light online and it looks interesting!

Hi Glassman, without having researched other peoples 'cycles' too much and only can go by mine, I get the impression that when I start my yearly cycle, I am sure the dominant one is around November, followed by a lesser one in May (I think).. Hmmmm? Must start making a log but, like a few people, I am SO glad when I am out of cycle, I tend to not think about it coming back!
I must get an O2 setup for the next bunch though!

Cheers
Gary

Staring at a light bulb, huh? Sure you haven't been hittin' the shrooms a wee bit early? Just kidding. I don't recall seeing any direct link here between the craving for daylight during the long winter and CHs. I do know this is not unusual to the general population though. Just don't burn out your retinas, OK? Blessings. lance

I know of some circadian, and
The cluster headache condition appears to be caused by an abnormality in the hypothalamus. This is the part of the brain which is called the 'biological clock' that is responsible for orchestrating and synchronizing the behaviors of all the organs and hormonal processes & changes that happen during our waking and sleeping cycles. Somehow it gets off-time and starts sending the wrong signals ... but it's timing mechanism is still 100% working so the headaches come at certain times of day or night.
This is also why the headaches will eventually go away 'on their own' after your cycle is over.
(from med literature)
The "biologic clock" is Serotonergically modulated and is connected anatomically to the eye. The drugs effective in the treatment of the cluster headache syndrome Enhance Serotonergic Neurotransmission, as also occurs in the treatment of migraine. This suggests that unstable serotonergic neurotransmission, may be common to both disorders. the evidence supports the tantalizing speculation that the cluster headache syndrome may be the result of an antidromically(out of cycle) discharging biologic pacemaker.
well there

Hello Glassman

For me and others here sun light is a trigger  so sunglasses are a must  Cool other bright lights have the same effect especially LED back lights on cars , It's like some one sticking a knife in your eye. During a hit pitch black is good for me .

So it's another example of the fluid and ever varying beast that is ch.

Good luck and God bless

Nigel

Thanks Nigel, Gary, thebbz and whimsey1.
Being new to the message board I am glad to have others to talk to and brain storm with about all this.  Sometimes it's overwhelming trying to make sense and put together a personal treatment plan.  I should have signed on in 2006 when I had my last cycle, it would have made me feel less isolated. Now, I feel a lot less lonely and helpless through this. Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register
Back then I thought I was doing so much better than previous cycles because I finally had "Mama Imitrex" in the fast acting nasal spray and my pain went from being hours on end to minutes (which still seemed like an eternity!).  I still got the usual 3rd headache that I couldn't run home to "Mama" for but still what a difference!
But what I really want now is to learn what others are doing to abort/prevent them so I can put a few more tricks in my bag.
P.S. what's the etiquette for signing off using a real name vs. one's message board user name - is it OK?

Hi Glassman,
O2 is the quick answer to your question...Again, the experts here will be along to advise!
No problem with signing off with your 'real' name as long as there is no one you know, who you would not like not to know you are here!

Smileys...Simply put your 'courser' where you want it to go, then click on the smiley you want to go there!  Roll Eyes
No code involved!....

I am just coming out of my cycle 'touch wood! but am making enquires as to how to get a setup without the Docs say so, as he is 'laid back' to say the least in his approach to MY pain relief!....

Off topic, I would like to track down (nothing sinister ) an elderly Lady in Ohio who, due to a hard drive failure, I have lost all her contact details and it is difficult to find her from over here....
Can I PM you with a link to page off my website please?

Best wishes

Gary
