glad to have found you guys
Feb 16th, 2011 at 10:00pm

i have been a clusterhead for about ten years. i normally go into remission for about 2 years before another cycle begins. For seven years doctors have been unable to diagnose my symptoms as being cluster headaches, it was just one MRI after another. in doing my own research i came to realize i am a cluster sufferer. I am from the Caribbean and medication is really hard to get or darn expensive. An oxygen setup costs 3 thousand dollars. imrtex and triptans are not available as they are slow sellers. i am still looking for help with any medication suggestion

Welcome to the board. I don't know much about the med situation in your region, sorry the oxygen is not an option, 33 year sufferer here and it's still my favorite approach!

Energy drinks, Monster, Rock Star, any containing the combo of caffiene and taurine. Chugged at the first sign of a hit many can abort or reduce an attack.

Then visit Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register

They use "alternative" methods to bust their cycles. Outside of mainstream medicine, but turning out some great success stories. Given your lack of access to our standard treatments, this might be your best option. Wishing you luck and some pain free time soon.

Hi Suresh,
Welcome to the board!
When you say that an O2 setup there would cost $3,000, is this a 'welding shop' ie do it yourself setup as mentioned on these boards?

Respect

If you're in St. Thomas or nearby, then you may have an actual advantage we don't - a legal, natural, powerful preventative, available for purchase (it's the same clusterbuster alternative Joe mentioned above):

This clusterbuster preventative approach is something that more and more CH folk (especially ones for whom pharmaceuticals have failed) are gravitating towards and it is showing major promise in clinical studies by Harvard Medical et al. This Newsweek article on the subject is a good introduction:

In the meantime, some no budget abortive techniques that work for some of us some of the time would be:

1) Jump in the car at onset, put your nose right up to the blasting/freezing air conditioner vent and breathe deeply. In 10 minutes or so your CH attack may be replaced by a tickly in comparison ice cream type headache. CH aborted. Could be helpful to hold ice cubes in your mouth on the CH side while doing this.

2) Extremely vigorous exercise at onset. Vigorous as in sprint all out til you drop.

CH according to Bejeeber:

Strictly relying on doctors for CH treatment is often a prescription that will keep you in a whole lot of PAIN. Doctors are WAY behind in many respects, and they are usually completely unaware of the benefits of high flow 100% O2.

There are lots of effective treatments documented at this site. Take matters into your own hands, learn as much as you can here and at clusterbusters.com, put it into practice, then tell this CH beast Jeebs said hello right before you bash him so hard with a swift uppercut knockout punch that his stupid horns go flinging right off.

Don't forget that there are legitimate online pharmacies which, once you file a Rx, will send via mail meds like trex, migranal, DHE45 etc. Some of the Canadian pharmacies are quite good at this. Blessings. lance

thanks to all of you who have taken the time to offer advice and suggestions. Its really comforting to know that there are people who understand what I am going through. my wife have also for the first time understanding what being a cluster head is like, after reading the experience of some of you. for this I am eternally grateful. i have been able to get some verapamil and its giving me some relief. I am definitely going to try the online pharms.  I will stock up on some energy drinks for emergency.thank you all once again Smiley Smiley
