Anyone suffer from Migraines while in Treatment
Feb 21st, 2011 at 6:31pm

I'm on 200mg a day of Topamax. My CH is under control (had some shadows when I reacclimated from Disney back to NJ in January, but no problems other than that). Seemed to have found my magic elixir, and the doc is keeping me on 200mg until the end of March to ensure no setbacks. Also, we will go right to 200mg at the first sign of the next attack, assuming it comes back next Oct/Nov.

Last couple days, I've been getting HA, but different, all around my head, eyes hurt, light hurts, sound  hurts, nauseous, tired, feel like puking, what I guess sounds like migraines. comes about for hours at a time, dissipates, then comes back. Anyone experience this? Other than CH, I've never been a "HA" guy until I had 3 concussions a few years ago, so I'm not one to know the various HA's people experience.

Medical literature reports cases of people developing migraine while having CH and vice versa.

And there is some recognition of a variant of CH called "cluster-migraine" where there is a mix of specific symptoms from each in one person, at the same time.

I get 2 different kinds of migraines in addition to CH.  I usually get a migraine about a week before my monthly.  Also if I'm in high cycle with the ch I will get migraines too and then the two headaches feed and bounce off eachother.  For me if I'm having a migraine I can pretty much count on having a particularly rough ride with CH.  So just remain diligent with your meds (so glad they are working for you!) And try to sleep as much as you can (if it's possible that is)  Make your room dark, get  a nice cool cloth, and take deep relaxing breaths.

hope you feel better quick!

Thank you both. This was a rough ride to start with the CH. Much worse than year. And even through the 200mg of Topamax, I felt some of the changes between Orlando and NJ, and even St. Louis and NJ (I was traveling for a while in November and January). Other than post-concussive migraines, I've never just had them like this for no apparent reason. They're knocking me on my butt a little. The meds already to that a bit, so the migraines only add to it. Thanks, again.

When I'm hit it's often followed by a migraine that last a couple of hours.  I puke and all.
But when I'm not in cycle, I have no migraine.  Never.

Hey there, I have migraines and now get CH...the CH's are fairly new to me as of 2 years ago.  I had one last year and this year...in the last few months get a CH almost once a week.

So I am a HA girl!  I am also on topomax for about 7 years now.  I have never tried this oxygen that I hear others talking about.  I have tried everything else however.  During a migraine HA I get mainly noise sensitivity, decreased appetite, nausea, vomiting, neck pain, smell sensitivity, body sensitivity, light sensitivity and fatigue.

The day after it finally goes away my personality is noticeably different too.  I am very sensitive and volatile.  I don't know if it is because I have been through hours or days of severe pain, or a real chemical imbalance in my brain.  I hope this helps you figure out what you are experiencing.  I really hope you are not starting to get chronic migraines on top of the CH's.

Take care, SpringThyme

Thanks SpringThyme. I've been getting CH for a few years, but documented only 2 years. The migraines started post-consussion about 5 years ago. The ones I've had the past 2 weeks have been bad though (no head trauma this time) and yes, I'm in a cycle, being treated with Topamax, 200mg, and effective. No nighttime CH, just some periodic migraines. same symptoms, light/noise are a killer, nausea, feel weak, tired, etc. in some ways worse than CH because it's constant and during "normal" working hours, in others, not as bad, because the pain is not at severe, but whatever, it is what it is, and there's not much to do but take some meds and hope for it to pass. The CH is under control, so I'm hoping to find out why the sudden onset of migraines. Damn headaches.

This is very interesting.

I have CH that have a few quirky features, although none of them fit migraines - they are just oddities all by themselves.

But the last few days (I'm 6 weeks into a cycle) I have had a couple of headaches where I have felt nauseous at the beginning. My headaches have been evolving over the last couple of weeks (and so has my dose of Topamax, as well as now adding Verapamil into the mix) but still they are not anything like migraines except that I have nausea. And it's only a couple of times, and it's never really severe.

We are very complicated, aren't we.
