My husband has what the Dr thinks is a severe case of conjunctivitis but I'm not so sure. He's had a very swollen red eye for nearly 2 weeks now but its just the one eye. Its not itchy and there is no discharge other than watering. It is however painful and he gets very very severe one sided headaches at 4 pm everyday which last for about 2 hours. He went to the emergency room where they ruled out Iritis and said it was conjunctivitis and gave him 3 types of eye drops.

I'm wondering whether he has cluster headaches that are causing the eye problem or whether the eye problem is causing the headaches? His eye is sore and swollen all the time but gets worse during the headache.

For those who experience red, swollen, teary eye along with cluster headache attacks, the eye returns to near normal in between attacks. If it's an on-going thing, my best guess is that it's related to the eye and not cluster headache syndrome.

My eye goes bright red and tears like crazy during an attack, but returns to normal shortly after an attack.

With headaches, we always advise people to seek out a headache specialist neurologist. GP's get about 4 hours total training on headaches, so they diagnose everything as migrain, because they know what those are!

You have a dual issue, is it the eye causing a headache in the brain, or is it the brain with an issue that is being reflected in the eye? Either way the ER will be a poor place to get diagnosed as they do "triage em and get em out the door treatment" I'd be looking at the eye specialist first......you only get 2 of those and wanna REALLY take good care of those.....then if the answers are not satisfactory, a headache specialist neurologist is your next step. Praying you get some answers soon, not knowing is sometimes the worst part.

Another fine example of nothing being the same for different CH sufferers. It's one of the facets that makes the diagnosis so tough!
