Donations to Japan relief funds?
Mar 17th, 2011 at 10:33am

If any of you are thinking of making a donation and just do not know who to trust, my University I work at put this list together and I wanted to share it with you.

As you already know, an earthquake of an unprecedented magnitude (9.0) struck northeastern Japan, leaving many of the residents homeless without medical supplies, water, food, electricity, or blankets. The problems with the nuclear reactors unfolding everyday may pose a formidable challenge to an already distressed nation. Needless to say, the situation is urgent.  The links below were compiled to assist the organizations physically present in Japan or donating directly to local relief effort. If you have already made a donation, your kind generosity is greatly appreciated. We hope that the list below may facilitate your decision if you are considering a donation:

The Consulate General of Japan: Japan Earthquake Relief Fund
The consulate general has established a special bank account to receive donations for the Tohoku Pacific Earthquake. You can make a deposit to this account, or send a check to the Consulate General. Please see below for details.

The Japanese Cultural and Community Center of Northern California (JCCCNC)
This is a local Japanese non-profit organization, which has established a fund to help the victims of the devastating earthquake and tsunami. 100% of the donations will go directly towards citizen relief efforts in the most affected areas.

I'm pleased that my company has made a $100,000 donation and has once again offered to include two organizations for Japanese relief in our matching contributions gift program. Generally our matching gifts are only for domestic charities, but they opened up the program to encourage employee contributions to Japan.
