hi i am jim and am a new member of the pain club, i started getting cluster headaches just after my wife was diagnosed with terminal cancer nov 2006, i think it was the stress that brought it on, and it lasted for about six months, 3 times a nite without fail, then a doctor tryed me on verapamil, this is a god send. it has given me back my life, i do get the odd problem, but i can put up with those, so for those of u not on it get your doctor to prescribe it. all the best for now

Hi Jim,
Truly, deeply sorry to hear about your Dear wife....

I have to agree with you about 'stress' bringing on CH for you, I also personally believe mine were the result of my first divorce in '99...Had never had anything remotely like that before!
My current cycle has just finished (touch wood here) and this too,
started in Nov this year when
my 2nd wife left me

(I am trying not to make a habit of this, really!)  Wink

Jim, it seems that you are dealing well with clusters now, and that is the good news we all like to hear!
If you get any issues, or just want to say Hi.You are very welcome to share with us and this fabulous community!

Peace and Respect to you

Gary

Hey Jim,
Me too, so sorry to hear about your wife.
We all come here to commiserate with each other about CH's but we're also pretty good at listening when it comes to life's other trials and tribulations.
My cycles are influenced by stress but I've also gotten them when I've felt less stressed than usual.
Many on this message board have been helped a lot with the use of Verapamil.  Glad to hear that you are one of them!
Hope your life is on the upswing now.  Smiley
Take care.
-Gary! (yes, another one!)

We need to be careful here when distinguishing between causality and effect. The "cause" of CHs seems to be related to a physical condition rooted in the hypothalmus, perhaps an extra ganglion of nerves we have that others who do not get CHs do not have. Stress, like various other triggers, did not cause CHs (it can bring about stress related headaches though) but may have the effect of triggering an attack. Why is this distinction important? Because therapies for stress related diseases tend not to work for Clusters, while therapies such as O2 do work on CHs but have no effect on stress related conditions. Maybe I'm picking nits, but I think it's important. Blessings. lance

That is an important consideration, Lance
Glad you mentioned it.
