Has met My Match...sigh/newbee to the site
Apr 1st, 2011 at 2:47pm

Hi All

Name: Ray
age:34
country: The Netherlands
relation: engaged to Heidi ( she lives in FL , USA)
start age of ch: 29 undiagnosed till 31-03-2011
job: un-employed
hobby's:
running a Radio Station ( Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register; reading; movies;music & of course My girl/Fiancée.

I thought I had toothaches....(all mowlers on My ch side I bit to pieces down to the gum)...I am scared of the dentist( and not afraid to say so...lmao)..so told myself to suck it up.... eventually went to a dentist..got sent to a jaw surgeon....removed the broken mowlers ...3 months later I got the same pain on the right side of My head.. I go back to the dentist and got told that that was because the left over mowlers now had room to move around and that till they settled it would hurt....3 weeks of walking up against the walls of pain, eating paracetemol like tic-tacs...no painkiller brought any pain relief...but after 3 weeks it was over.....3 months pass....and omg here is that pain again.... unbearable pain...no painkiller works.....each pain attack lasted 45 to 180 minutes...4 to 10 attacks a day... I always thought it where those so called teeth-shifts... I could set the calendar to it...every 3 months 2 to 3 weeks of excruciating pain....

2011:
In January a new attack period starts.... 4 days and its over I am relieved it took so short this time....
Then February started....and so did the headaches ...it started with 2 attacks of over 90 minutes a day but each day I get more attacks and they become more painful....My gf said to go see a doctor... I eventually did....now I am a very lucky Man..My dr also treated 1 another man in My area with ch...after 5 minutes she asked if I heard of ch...I did ..My fathers brother suffered 15 years of ch and is now 4 years attack free... she asked point by point if I had the symptoms and if I could remember how long....she told Me a few things and all things fell into place..... HOLY CRAP ...CLUSTER HEADACHES.... she immidiatly put Me on sumatriptan injections....took the weekend to read over the information about ch...past Monday she arranged a neurological research in the hospital as well as to prescribe Me verapamil (240 mg)... Thursday I went in for the research... during the talk with the co-dr  I get an attack.....My luck the neurologist that I was seeing is specialized in ch...he had Me moved to a room with air in an instand...15 lpm 100%.....no effect.....only thing that works for Me is a hot shower ... after the attack he confirmed it is ch ....He has put Me on prednisolon 60mg to hope to end this cycle.......

So this Me... Chaos with a Monster inside.....now entering My 8th week of attacks..... My current only relief.... is with the first attack to take a shower and afterwards place a voltaren heat bandaid (against muscle ache) in the back of My neck to keep it warm and the  blood-flow maximum ( no guarantee it works but I have less attacks)

The pic is Me and My girl when she was here to visit Me

Hi Ray, glad you got here eventually!
5 years is still 5 years too long to suffer CH, but really glad you got finally diagnosed!
The experts will be along soon to discuss the level of meds you are taking, and will tell you if they need upping at all.
Have you read the O2 link on the left pane? You will see that most hospitals flow only goes up to a max of 15ltrs per min, which is not enough to abort an attack. My Dad was recently in for major surgery and I noticed that the max flow(in the UK) was only 15lpm too!...

Hi Ray - sorry you have CH, but please keep hanging around and doing research here too, because you'll find out about a LOT more than hot showers for effectively dealing with CH.

First off, O2 can be very effective at aborting CH, but for very many of us these requirements must be met:

  • Start the O2 right at onset of attack

  • A non-rebreather mask must be used for 100% O2 (this isn't your standard mask)

  • For many of us, including myself, 25 LPM is the minimum flow for achieving a quick and lasting abort

Also are you using the Sumatriptan injections you were prescribed? (they must be used right at onset also). If so, this imitrex (sumatriptan) tip will help you stretch your doses and avoid overdosing etc.: Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register

And thanks for including the good pic! Man look at that cool long hair you have - hey I bet you'd be very receptive to clusterbusters LOL!

People are knocking out entire episodes with "clusterbusting", you may want to look into it in hopes of preventing your next episode(s): Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register

CH according to Bejeeber:

Strictly relying on doctors for CH treatment is often a prescription that will keep you in a whole lot of PAIN. Doctors are WAY behind in many respects, and they are usually completely unaware of the benefits of high flow 100% O2.

There are lots of effective treatments documented at this site. Take matters into your own hands, learn as much as you can here and at clusterbusters.com, put it into practice, then tell this CH beast Jeebs said hello right before you bash him so hard with a swift uppercut knockout punch that his stupid horns go flinging right off.

Yup...get the best and highest flow rate O2 equipment you can afford or find...but, in the meantime, no need to wait. Get the O2 and use what comes with it. You'll get better results with the right regulator and mask, but I found relief using O2 even when I didn't use it correctly or most efficiently. Any relief is a Godsend when the pain ramps up. Good luck and God bless! lance

Hiya all, a quick update :

Painfree now for more then 72 hours hoping the cycle for now is over...

After contact with My health insurance and neurologist they made sure I got o2 within 3 days..
I think I can say I am pretty lucky since My insurance looked for a o2 supplier that also supplied regulators up to 30 lpm, they gotta drive 2 hours for delivery but got it in today....

I am pain free or now and prepared for the next cycle....just hoping it stays out for longtime...

thx for comments and the welcome   Cool Wink
