Minor road rage.
Apr 13th, 2011 at 10:56am

My fiancée keeps trying to get me to not get mad at other drivers when she is in the car, but stupid people that drive just kill me. I think I am a magnet for bad drivers as well they seem to always mess with me and she even admits that when I get mad I have good reason she just freaks when I flip them the bird or give them a dirty look, she thinks someone may pull a gun or something. I am not nuts and if the person looks like a gang banger or something I reframe from flipping them the bird. So on my way into work, I am on campus at a large four way stop and just as I stop the gal pulls into the left turn lane to my right a second after me but she never even looks to the left roles through the stop sign and just pulls out into the intersection, I take my foot off the break in my big truck and just roll out into the intersection and I do not even touch the gas and never even get close to the witch and she starts with the hands in the air and dirty looks like I am doing something horribly wrong. At first I do the same but the look she gave me I could not control the middle finger and gave it to her. Lol I just do not get it she did not even stop but I am the a-hole when I was in the right, yes I could have kept my foot on the break and not encroached on her but I wanted her to at least see there was another car and how she could not see me sitting there in a big white truck in the first place I have no idea but I guess her time is just so much more valuable than mine that she needed to get to her parking spot 20 seconds sooner.
Am I so wrong in getting upset with people that cut me off or drive under the speed limit or one of my favorites two people side by side driving under the speed limit holding up traffic and do not even get me started on people that talk on their cell phones or text while driving even if it is illegal here they still do it like crazy and if you are one of them guess what? It does effect you’re driving just look at the faces of the people pissed off at you as they drive by  because you are driving erratic and cannot keep a constant speed. Done ranting just needed to get this out since I am unable to talk at home about it.   Grin

Yes, because you are the only one who is affected, and you are affected negatively (rise in blood pressure, frustration). The other driver is not affected. Since you can control how you react (but not how the other driver drives), you should control that which you can.

I understand Matt. I DO miss my blue lights sometime. I try to just smile when things like that happen but my pet peeve is slow traffic in the fast lane. Thats when I REALLY miss the blue lights.

Brew is right though. This will never stop happening and you do need to not let it effect you that bad.

Of cours when I was in cycle, all bets were off. Wink

While I agree it is far easier said than done, I seldom let my anger out and as we all know pain tends to make you angry and instead of taking it out on my fiancée or coworkers I take it out by yelling in my car at people I do not know or will ever see again and I think it is harmless since I am not about to chase someone down or have a physical altercation with them over cutting me off or driving to slow. This is what I tried to explain to her that it was not really a bad thing and it was my way of venting my anger and was harmless. Am I wrong, I just think if I do not vent in some way that my anger could come out at a bad time and I could wind up beating the crap out of someone that said the wrong thing at the wrong time to me and I snap. I really do not want to do this so I vent at drivers just my way of pressure control, I just have to do it when she is not in the car and luckily for me there is no end to bad drivers to yell at. Don’t get the wrong idea I only do this a few times a week and not every time I get behind the wheel if I did I would need anger management or something. Grin

I think you need to work on not letting it bother you in the first place. It will take years off your life, and it's just not worth that kind of emotional investment.

It’s funny I am one of the easiest going guys around and almost never get angry, it seems the only time I get mad at people is when they drive stupid. Si it is really not like I am over the top and most say it is very out of character for me when they see me get mad while driving and it surprises them. After talking about it I do think I need to tone it down and try to just let the stupid drivers be stupid and not get mad about it after all the only person I am winding up is me. I told Nancy at lunch I was going to try and be better and I will when she is in the car and try to do better at not telling her when stupid people piss me off when she is not in the car, ok and try not to get pissed off at them in the first place, it’s a work in progress thing. If their stupidity is allowed to make you angry, they win. Don't let 'em win. You win by keeping your blood pressure down.

The worst aspect is that, if they win, they don't even realize it.

Nancy hates it when I say "and that is why it is not legal to have a 60 Cal mounted to your hood" she thinks I would use it I think.  Grin

Im from florida.... worst drivers in the country.... they are either old or stupid... I feel your pain    I dont even think people are aware of left lane is for passing..

but really, only worth getting mad if they put you at risk. if its just stupid driving relax.... there are more important things in life to get angry about
