Depakote and Lithium
Apr 15th, 2011 at 7:33pm

After having to quit Topamax cold turkey last week (it was messing with my vision!), my neurologist put me on Depakote today (in addition to 600mg Lithium).  He chuckled when he was telling me about the medication and realized that he has me on two meds that also treat bipolar disorder.  "People are going to think that I'm treating your for bipolar disorder, and no, I don't think you have bipolar disorder."  <chuckle>  That's when my husband piped up with, "You don't have to live with her."  LOL  We all had a good laugh -- even with me sitting there with the left side of my face sliding off my skull from a headache.  And yeah, since going off Topamax last week, I've been a mess, so I guess it was a fair shot from my hubby.  Smiley

I just dropped off the prescription, and I've forgotten what the daily dosage is, but I'll be happy to report about my experience -- good or bad.

Just picked up the new prescription.  500mg of Depakote at bedtime for the first week.  Then it's doubled.  They're gigantic horse pills, which is kind of gross, but it's understandable since it's time-released.
