Melatonin
Apr 21st, 2011 at 5:11pm

I used Melatonin for the first time a couple of nights ago. I took 5mg extended release.   I fell asleep quickly but had a HA about an hour and a half after doing so.  I must have been pretty sound asleep and didn't wake until it was pretty bad.  It took quite a while for the o2 to take care of it.  Now I'm a little worried about trying it again.

I know a lot of you all find it really helpful and wonder if I should give it another chance?

Thanks,

Jeannie

Melatonin can take up to a week of taking it every night for it to become effective for some people.

Thanks.   Maybe I'll try it again.

I just thought of this.... Is it okay to use while "busting"?

I don't know about busting but I do know melatonin can take a bit to take a hold. Once it does you will most likely have your nights back

My neurologist has me on a regimen of 15 mg of melatonin 2 hours before bedtime.  It takes about a week for it to become effective for me, but it does seem to stop the 2am nasties.  I'm usually pretty groggy during the day for the first 3 or 4 days after I start it, but that goes away.

My best wishes that it helps you, too.  It is always nice to be able to sleep through the night when I'm in a cycle.

it never helped with my  ha,  but it helped me to sleep with all the meds that I was taking that were interfering with me falling asleep.
