Weird Pain Transfer?
May 8th, 2011 at 9:25am

Hey everyone, my heart goes out to my fellow CH companions. I just had something weird happen to me.

I just started a cycle after having a year off. I attributed the year off to waterx3 right until a new cycle started which was when I started to consider that maybe I spent a year obsessed over the color of my pee for nothing and it would have taken a year off on its own. Maybe the beast wanted to spend some time in Rio, who knows? My skin is much clearer now.

Anyhow, I just started a new cycle, with one kip 3-4 so far and have felt the shadow for quite a few days, with only kip 1-2 attacks in between.

I just woke up with a very strong one coming on, I thought to likely ascend to a kip 6, here was my process.

-Chugged a glass of water
-Took a tylenol with codeine(I had one left over from tooth stuff and I knew it wouldn't help but I thought i'd have a little euphoria as the beast pillaged my face)
-Ate some crumb cake
-Took a nabumetone(I had never tried this medication during an attack and had it handy. Its a 24 hour NSAID to be taken with food, hence the crumb cake)
-Ate some watermelon(I like watermelon a lot)
-Covered my shoulders in a blanket just as i got the chills and sat in a comfy chair

Just as I covered myself with the blanket and  I was getting to the level where i need to vocalize my pain, something weird happened, my pain transferred from right side of my nose/right eye, completely to my right temple. The degree of pain was the same but much more bearable, like being punched withe the same degree of force in the balls but then changing  to the fleshy part of the butt. I froze as I didn't want this to stop. In about a minute the pain subsided from my temple and now I just have the remnants of a shadow under my eye.

HOW DO I RECREATE THIS

Has this pain transfer happened to anyone else? Did you cover yourself in a blanket just as you got the chills, take a nabumetone, or also love watermelon?

Don't worry I realize the nature of cluster headaches and that this rare occasion is unlikely to happen ever again,

Please no warnings about the dangers of opiates, sorry if this is a repost.

Thanks!

I do like the idea of a crumb cake/watermelon cure! Smiley

Brett, do you have something more effective than coffee cake to deal with your CHs? Preventatives or abortives? lance

I used my last Sumatriptan nasal spray yesterday and am currently balancing time between my two jhobs to schedule an appointment with my neurologist. in my year remission I didn't have health insurance so I have no means of actual abortives until I see my neurologist again. Tons of crumb cake though

Dangit Brett for a minute there I thought you may have discovered a breakthrough recipe for transferring CH from behind the eyeball to the temple.

That would be a heavenly accomplishment indeed, not to mention delicious.  Cheesy

CH according to Bejeeber:

Strictly relying on doctors for CH treatment is often a prescription that will keep you in a whole lot of PAIN. Doctors are WAY behind in many respects, and they are usually completely unaware of the benefits of high flow 100% O2.

There are lots of effective treatments documented at this site. Take matters into your own hands, learn as much as you can here and at clusterbusters.com, put it into practice, then tell this CH beast Jeebs said hello right before you bash him so hard with a swift uppercut knockout punch that his stupid horns go flinging right off.
