Is gonna have a Dr's head!! (VERY long)
May 13th, 2011 at 12:50am

This past Friday I had to go to the ER. Had a headache come on while I was driving and was 30 minutes from the hospital. (Don't ask. It's the only one I know of because we just moved here and I wasn't thinking at this point) So got there and definitly was out of my mind. They have NEVER lasted this long nor come at that time of day. I couldn't even tell the check in nurse my name so just dumped my wallet and handed her my ID. Blood pressure off the charts. OK so they take me back and 10 minutes later the Dr strolls in and says "So you have a headache" and pulls up my info on the computer and says "so I see the last time you came in it was in an "altered state of awareness" (I had a severe reaction to imitrex. I spent 4 days in the hospital with CT scans and MRI's). He says "Ok we'll get you medicated and walked out. No. I'm not kidding. He didn't look at me. He didn't exam me. He did not ask me a single question. 10 minutes after that a nurse comes in and says as soon as my husband gets there they would medicate me. My husband was on base an hour away. By this time I am so freaked out because a headache has NEVER lasted this long!!!! Even without meds or O2. Theysend a student paramedic in to put in an IV line and a nurse to draw blood (I know exactly what the blood was for. SOB was looking for drugs in my system) The student leads me to another part of the ER and asks if he can do anything for me. I am able to pull up the Wiki definition of Cluster Headaches on my Iphone and BEG this poor kid to help me. To show a Dr or Nurse that and make them read it. Within 5 minutes a nurse comes in and tells me she's got meds for me and I just need to sit down so she can give them. I said "So my husband is here then?" She looks at me and says "I'll check but no one has come back." He was still 1/2 an hour away. I don't know what they gave me but it didn't work. So they tried something else...and something else...and something else. Then I just told them to knock my ass out. I didn't care. Give me the biggest injection of phenergan or whatever they could to put my ass to sleep. FINALLY the last thing they gave me...the nurse said it was stronger than diladin??? worked. Brought the 10 down to a managable 4. Never saw the Dr again. I called the hospital on Monday and went off. They are supposed to have the company that is in charge of the ER docs call me but I'm still waiting. If I havn't heard by noon tommorow I'll be calling again. I'm out for blood!!!! When I was discharged the Dr's biz card was attached to my paperwork...on the back of the card says "We commit to caring for you with the highest levels of courtesy and compassion. Our mission is to listen carefully to you and to explain all procedures and treatments, and let you know what to expect next. We are genuinely concerned about your health and your comfort"
I've never laughed so hard....

I can't say that I blame you. My experience with ER care for CH isn't the best, but I believe you have me beat.  Give um hell!
