Summer 2011 Begins~Pictures
Jun 6th, 2011 at 9:05am

We've had 4 days straight of 100 F (with heat index, was aroudn 110).  We're already under a state wide burn ban.  The ground is cracking, it's so dry.  Went out Saturday to take some pictures (told Jimbo that if I got that bright idea again, chain me to something so I couldn't leave).

Nice pictures Carolyn, I especially like the first one of the white flower.

BTW, what is that red squirrel doing?  Looks like he's about to use the wood as a potty, lol.

Loved the shot of the Magnolia just opening up.  I miss them up here in Yankee country!

What is the red flower?  My first thought was Bird of Paradise, but I know it isn't.  It is pretty.

Jerry and Mel,
That white flower is a Cape Jessamine (a member of the gardenia family).  It has the most heavenly fragrance.

I'm not sure what the red flower is.

That squirrel was the friendliest little critter.  He was actually sitting on that pipe while eating.

Here's a few more.

Gorgeous pictures!

Duh!  Carolyn,  it's called "air conditioning" and you usually find it indoors.  You do that again and I'll send Jimbo the chain!

Luv ya

Sandy

That white flower is called a Cape Jasmine and it has the most wonderful smell.  My daddy grew them and there was a bush on each corner of our house.  We didn't have air conditioning  but an attic fan.  The scent wafted through our house for weeks and is burnt into my memory.

You sure know how to hurt a bloke, Delta. It's mid-winter here and night-time temperatures have been plummeting to 10 degrees C which is a hypothermic 50f in the old money.

Yesterday's top of  29 (a mere 85f) meant I had to consider putting a shirt on to avoid the dreaded wind-chill factor then adjust the beer fridge so as not to get an Arctic freeze.

Backyard shots:

This little guy is completely intrepid - he will hover a few inches above my arm and talk to me. I'm betting that I'll have him landing on me soon.

Our lack of rainfall is making some critters (who never get close) come in looking for water.

Mel, your gazebo looks wonderful.  Are you going to put netting around it for the bugs?   Makes me want to come up there and sit in it and have an ice tea wuith youse.

Mark, how in hell did you EVER get that hummingbird pic?????   When they come to my house they are so quick no camera in the world could capture them.

Keep the summer pics coming folks.  Those with no talent...are loving them.

Those are neat Marc!  There's quite a few bald eagles around here and hopefully I'll get a chance to get some pictures of them.

Linda- I don't have a bug screen for it, just a fire pot with citronella gel on the table.  It would be lovely to have you come drink some iced tea (or whatever you want) with me! Smiley

Marc- that's a stunning turkey!
