Computer screen trigger?
Jun 9th, 2011 at 8:08am

Has anyone else noticed they can trigger a hit by working at thei computer for extended periods of time?  Have you noticed any correlation to screen or font size? I have wondered if it is related only to eye strain, but I do not seem to have the same issues while simply reading a book or even a Nook. Hey, that's kinda Seussy. lance

Various types of flashing light have been associated with migraine triggering but have never seen such an association with CH.

Some people who work on PCs for long periods may benefit from a separate prescription/pair of glasses reserved just for PC work. The viewing distance to the screen may be just a bit too far for the reading Rx.

I've not had any issues with using a PC, which I do for long periods of time as I work in IT.

Many people who are long sighted need to have specific glasses for using a PC as the eye is focussed at a much greater distance than that normally used for reading a book or similar.

I well remember a time I was off heat and watching a TV program about chaos theory. Along came a moving, coloured diagram that was like diving into a spectrum and I copped a K8 within seconds.

Another time I was watching the patterns of a drop of oil in a sunlit puddle and wore a genuine K9 for my troubles.

Just think how boring our lives would be otherwise.

OMG...Lance...maybe you are right!!!  I didn't think of it before but I'm going to start paying more attention.  We were traveling recently, on the road for 4 days and I didn't have a CH for 3 nights in a row!!!  I was OFF the computer.  I haven't had three days in a row since I started my cycle last October!  Thanks for the heads up on this.

You are most welcome. I'd love to hear from more of our fellow sufferers. It just might be a useful bit of knowledge to add to our repertoire of possible triggers. lance

I haven't noticed a cause and effect with computer use on past cycles. Since I've decided I'm never having another cycle I'll probably never be of any use to you....but IF the beast ever comes back I'll monitor that. (get it...MONITOR that??? I kill me I really do!) Grin

I must say in my case, bright lights and screens up close have triggered HAs almost within an hour every time. also i found that the sun is definitely not my friend... Angry

I recall that various light sources--stobes, flashing, etc.--have been triggers in migraine.

And for seizures. I have long maintained CHs bear some characteristics of seizure activity...sudden triggered onset, periodic, rapid cessation, postictal malaise...that sort of thing. Have no idea how such findings could help us were it true. Blessings. lance

Hey Lance

Bright light is definitely a trigger for me .

Computer screens are back lit , unlike books , so how about turning down the brightness of your monitor and see if that helps.

Or ,if you can work out how to do it, change the back ground colour.

People who have a history of migraine in the family often benefit from using glasses with a coloured tint to aide reading, my son says his help with the computer and TV too . The colour and shade that works is an individual thing thoe. Just thought it could be worth messing about with.

God bless

Nigel
