I am headache free now for 2 days!
Jun 14th, 2011 at 12:43pm

Everyone,
I have been headache free now for 2 days and wanted to share what helped me with you all in the hope that this information will help someone.

I have suffered with cluster migraine for about 30 years now. My headaches are very seasonal, but when I get hit, I have headaches almost every 2 hours of the night. In the past, I had taken midrin which worked well for me and broke my cycles but midrin as you all know has been discontinued. My doctor has given me many different meds which only caused rebound headaches for me. My headaches have averaged 90 minutes and then I would get relief and then have another headache within an hour or so.
About 2 weeks ago, my doctor tried a new med for me (nortriptyline) and he instructed me to take it at night 25MG pills that I could take 1 or 2 at bedtime as a preventive.
The first night I took one nortriptyline and I slept on oxygen (5L/Min with nose canula) and had no headache all night but I woke up feeling extremely tired and then within 2 hours had a terrible headache. The following night I took my 1 nortriptyline and no oxygen and slept through the night with no headache, but had a headache within 2 hours of waking up.
I started thinking that if the nortriptyline helped me get through the night, I would ask my doctor if I could take it in the morning also. They told me that I could as long as it did not make me drowsy. I took the morning dose of the nortriptyline and no headache all day. As the nortriptyline wore off (about 4 in the afternoon) I took a naproxen (which is basically a big dose of advil) which my doctor had also prescribed me, and I only had tingles in my sinus on the right, but never got into a full blown cluster.
Now I am taking the nortriptyline (25MG) once a night as late before I go to sleep as possible, and not taking it again till 11:30 A.M. and getting through the day and night!
I pray that this will help someone reading this post. My email is joe@nenet.net if you wish to contact me for any details or info.
God bless you all, and may the Lord abundantly bless and heal you all! Regardless of what we have felt through the pain, He is faithful and will sustain you till He brings total healing from this terrible condition.

Always great to hear when someone achieves some pain free time! When you get a second, read this link:

Used correctly oxygen will abort my attacks in about 6-8 minutes. I suggest this because the beast is notorious for its ability to constantly morph and work its way around our prevent meds and our abortives. Oxygen is a safe, fast, effective prevent for many on the board. A great weapon to have at the ready in case your current regimen stops working. Hoping that's NEVER the case for you. Wink Enjoy your pain free time.

"Somebody had to say it" is usually a piss poor excuse to be mean.
