Now this was moving...

Gladewater had a soldier killed in Afganistan the first of the month. Yesterday he came home for the final time.

He landed at DFW and was escorted from there to Gladewater with an Honor Guard the Motorcycle Birgade (I don't remember what they're called - sorry) and so much more -- it was really impressive ... 120 miles with lights flashing and people lined up on Hwy 80 waving flags - holding signs in 105 degree heat...

In Gladewater, when he finally arrived home, the streets were "standing room only" - the procession was about a mile long and he was welcomed with a "hero's" welcome.

It was one of the most impressive things I've seen lately. If anyone wants to get choked up - go to Longview News.com - there's a video that made me cry (and I don't do that often).

God Bless all the fallen heros - this one just brought it too close to home.

They're called The Patriot Guard riders, Barb.  Jim and I are members and we've gone to many funerals just like the one you've mentioned and I agree...the sight of it all is heart-wrenching as well as something to make you proud.

The funeral is today and I wish I could go (and I don't go to funerals very often). Apparently the town is going to close down for it.

I don't think I've seen Gladewater get this patriotic since I was a kid (and not to this extent even then). And I've never seen so many flags. People are bringing their kids out to "honor" a hero and explaining "why" they're there to them.

I'm really "proud" to be an American when I see something like this. This is how it should be.

A friend's nephew recently received the same honor on his final journey home to Ottumwa, IA.

God bless the Patriot Guard - every last one of them - for their service during the journey home for these heroes.
