Anyone want a laugh?
Jul 3rd, 2011 at 4:04pm

I didn't really know where to post this, and I didn't want to COMPLETELY hijack Batch's Omega3/D3 thread in the meds forum, but wanted to share.  (Yes, Potter, I know this is a LOT of supplements).

With Gary having tried so many meds & herbs (including the implanted stims) and so many specialists so many times, when I started him on Batch's supplements, I didn't tell him why - I told him it was a weight loss regimen.  I hand him pills, he takes them.    Smiley

That said... we must assume he's got some other condition interfering with "proper" treatment, because nothing's worked since the shrooms stopped helping, and 02 stopped working ages ago.  (In fact, the same time he had a K10 WHILE dosing on shrooms).

He refuses to see an "alternative medicine" doc unless they're also an MD.  I understand, I do.  And I found one, about an hour from us.  Money's tight, we don't have insurance, and he keeps finding reasons not to go.

BUT... we don't scrimp when it comes to our cats.  We adopted a kitty that western meds wasn't helping, and I found a DVM that is trained in all kinds of alternatives (including nutrition, western herbs and chinese herbs).  She fixed him up in a couple of weeks.

One of our other cats was not feeling well, so we took him to see that vet a few days ago after his regular vet couldn't figure out the problem.

The alternative DVM asked after Gary (the right side of his face now puffs up and his eye turns red in addition to the drooping) when a cluster starts - you can't miss it).  I told her about Gary's situation with the central fevers & sweating, how his internal body temp is so different from one side to the other...  and having just started the D3 & Omega3, &etc.  She asked about his GI system (which is terrible), and as she's met him numerous times, she knows his personality, but confirmed stuff like - he literally sees red when he's angry, blah blah blah.

She recommended several more supplements to add to the list. (knowing everything he's currently taking).

So I've now added "Gastrodia & Uncaria Wind Relief" (If you want to see the sort-of-description in its treatment of one-sided headaches:  Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register ... "Tian Ma Gouteng Wan" is Gastrodia & Uncaria) and "Nourish Jade Yin" to his supplements.  I bought the tinctures by Kan Herb (high quality) and add them to his lemonade as per her "prescription." (Well, suggestion LOL).  Apparently Gary is very "yin deficient" with ...something with gall bladder meridian blockages and some whatever-liver-deficiency (in chinese medicine unofficial diagnosis).

Yin deficiency, funny enough, is addressed by increasing the body pH.

To help with his "overheating" problem, he'll need "a LOT" (20 - 30 drops, 3-5x per day) of the Nourish Jade Yin.

AND... she suggested I put him on the Align Probiotic.

Yes, feel free to make fun of me for trying crazy sounding alternatives.  BUT... it's not like anything else has helped, and as the herbs don't interact, have little in terms of potential side-effects, I figure there's no harm in trying.

But seriously - I think it would be hysterical if a combination of The Cluster Headache Site and our VET were able to find Gary some relief!   Smiley

I suspect at this point you don't give a sh%$ what stops the attacks....just so something does. Really hoping he gets some relief. Smiley You set a pretty high bar for supporters. Wink

God Bless you girl for all that you do and have done to try and get some relief for your man.

You're right - it would be really strange if it ends up being a vet that gives Gary something that settles things down for him.

Hang in there!

Sorry, this strikes me as just plain odd. He doesn't know what he's taking or what the meds are supposed to do?

These supplements.  For the 60+ other actual medicines he's taken via prescription from the neuros, of course he's known what they were, what they were supposed to do, how, their mechanism(s) of action, what they were designed to do, and the theory of why they might help his CH.  And when he tried the RC seeds and the shrooms, of course he knew what they were.  We grew the shrooms.

These are herbal/vitamin supplements, not prescription medications.  And they're not hallucinogenics or antidepressants or MAOI inhibitors or calcium-channel blockers or something.

I might have discussed it in one of the other posts or in a PM, but Gary's had enough of getting his hopes up for something to work for his CH only to have it not work.  He's found a reasonable mental place that allows him to function through the pain and not constantly want to kill himself.

So rather than explain that there is yet another something for him to try that may help his CH, I told him I was adding D3 and Omega 3 to the supplements we take and it should help him lose weight.  The tinctures I add to his lemonade (after evaporating off most the alcohol, though we're talking miniscule amounts here in the scale of things) - I didn't even tell him about them.  Again - why get his hopes up?  Or why have him protest?  I'm with him pretty much 24/7, and there generally aren't harmful side effects.  And if he were allergic to something in them, I'd already know.

We're very close - technically a codependent relationship, but I really don't care if anyone has a problem with that.  We're partners in biz and in life, and we each have our respective roles.  We conduct research for a living.  As a supporter, my "power" is/has been researching CH and treatments.  He researches stocks/the market.  He's the big thinker, I'm the little thinker.  But other than helping keep the journals when we do that (which we're not right now), he really wants to avoid the subject.  It's his way of dealing with it.

Laurie you are a champion supporter that's for sure.  I hope and pray that Gary gets some well deserved relief.  I understand you not wanting to get Gary's hopes up...you're not giving him anything that's going to harm him.

The way I see things there is no reason not to try anything and everything no matter how unconventional it may seem to others...as long as it's not harmful.

We're tree-hugging hippies born twenty years too late for the hippie movement.  That said, we have seen someone trained in Chinese herb medicines and found them to be helpful.

I've always felt the a combination of Eastern and Western medicine is the key to successful treatment of anything. This came about many years ago when my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. In that case, mind over matter combined with western medicine (surgery) cleared her of the disease.

Just my two cents ...  Wink
