6 years PF & got hit w/ Kip 4-5 this am
Aug 6th, 2011 at 4:19pm

August 2005 was the last cycle I had.  Since then I suffered tremendous head trauma including coma from a sledding accident.  I truly believe this accident delayed/stopped the beast.  Maybe I am just getting older and CH's are known to decrease in frequency as we age.  Don't know, don't care, just relieved to have had my life PF from CH's for 6 years.

This morning I was hit with a Kip 4-5 and fortunately went away with the help of a cold washcloth, strong fingers and time alone in my bedroom for 15 minutes.

Classic symptoms of red/watery/dropping eye, stiff neck, pain localized to left side-neck/eye/temple, and runny/clogged left nostril.

I pray this was just a reminder that the beast can visit when he wants, however will leave me alone forever, wishful thinking I know.

Wishing all a PF Saturday and PF life!

My last cycle followed a 2 year remission......really stings when he returns after such a nice, long, pain free time. Hoping you're right and it's just a rogue hit......assume it's not and get your defenses ready just in case. Crossing my fingers for ya.

I hate it when it does that. Joe is right, being prepared is wise. I promised myself, I would always be as prepared as possible.

Head trauma stopped your cycle?  That's what started my CHs 1/01 . . . chronic since then.

I have a friend who claims his wife's Indian name is, "Walks-With-A-Skillet" . . . Perhaps I should pay her a visit and offer an insult Shocked.

All kidding aside, hope this is a random, unknown trigger attack and the beast will lose your address.

I wonder if ya might want to rent an O2 tank and get the 'ol high flow regulator and non rebreather mask dusted off and ready to go today, just in case?

CH according to Bejeeber:

Strictly relying on doctors for CH treatment is often a prescription that will keep you in a whole lot of PAIN. Doctors are WAY behind in many respects, and they are usually completely unaware of the benefits of high flow 100% O2.

There are lots of effective treatments documented at this site. Take matters into your own hands, learn as much as you can here and at clusterbusters.com, put it into practice, then tell this CH beast Jeebs said hello right before you bash him so hard with a swift uppercut knockout punch that his stupid horns go flinging right off.

Thanks for the kind words...it appears as if it was a "rogue hit", however after 32 yrs of dancing w/ the beast I definitely learned to prepare and am certainly ready to fight if/when attacked again.

RichardN...mine started (episodic) by head trauma also.

PF wishes to all.

Sorry for the hit.  I knew I had not seen you around for some time, but it didn't seem like that long!  Long remissions followed by a hit seem worse than staying chronic to me.  Here's hoping it is just a rogue and it goes away and leaves you alone forever.  I keep hoping for the aging thing, but mine have been going the other direction and I'm a good bit older than you. The long remission (2006-2011) helped my doctor to diagnose me with cluster headaches. I enjoyed my breather while it lasted. Smiley

Darn... After 35 consecutive years of CH I was free of the beast for almost 4 years. Never missed a single year and now they are back and worse than ever. I have certainly learned the lesson! Enjoy every day that you are free, when they return it feels like the last one was only months ago! Good luck mate and hang in there.

I was PF for almost 3 years till this April. I never heard the term "rouge hit", but looking at my HA diary, I did have 2 rouge hits last year and 2 the year before. I didn't know it could be but started on verapamil right away and stayed with it a couple of weeks. I turned 60 in June and I also was hoping the age thing might have kicked in. Good luck, I hope that's all it was.

Hey Gary, welcome to the board. I've said it before but those long remissions really make the beasts return a bummer! Wink

After my father passed in 2000, I had my first PF time ever(lasted almost 4 years). Got hit for the next year pretty hard. 2007-2009=PF. Since then I've had to take LOA form work once and now seems like it might be my second LOA as this years cycle seems to be extremely bad. I wish too that mine were getting better with age but they just seem to be getting more intense. However, the one thing that has gotten me through all of it is my CH.com family. Irreplaceable!!!

Vegas, we must be cycling together...my last round was in 2006 and it's been heaven, until this past June.

We all should never let our guard down as the beast is ready to pounce at any time.

Hopefully he was lightly knocking at your door.

Hi Mia,
Interesting coincidence.  You've been in cycle since June?  Are your cycles usually this long?  Hope you are near the end and that your hits become less intense and less frequent.

I've only been hit twice since I started this thread, so am thankfully not in cycle.  But obviously not holding my breath as I have been reminded of the living nightmarish horror within seconds.  I've armed myself with more knowledge than previously and am ready to effectively fight should I need to.

Typically when i'm not in cycle, I stay away from this board and try to focus on catching up on time lost, particularly time with my son and my work.

I've been away for a several months and came back 12 days ago to learn many new treatments others find helpful and also plenty of new medical articles showing progress in the understanding of CH's.

This board is unlike any other resource and am proud to have a place I call home away from home that is reliable among others who 100% identify and empathize.

PF wishes to all  Wink

Vega, bummer on the return, hope it's just a drive by.

Been in and outa' here for years, much the same as you. Totally agree with the reliable home away from home... Great folks, that understand what we all go through. Great resourse indeed.
