Question about oxygen.
Aug 14th, 2011 at 4:32pm

Hi everyone. I'm only 15 years old and I've been having migranes and clusters for 11 years now. I've never heard about oxygen until today visiting this site. How exactly does oxygen work?  Huh Thankyou so much  Smiley

Welcome to the board Jordyn, are you working with a headache specialist neuro yet? We've seen the best results from those who have the ability to work with one. Glad you found us.

Thankyou (: No, I've been to a neurologist, they gave me loads of medicine. None of them worked, so eventually they had given up. I am on a medication I take when I get the headaches called fioricet. I just found out today about headache specialists, but it'll be hard trying to get into one. (Long story). But thankyou so much, I'm glad to be here myself.

Fioricet is basically useless against CH. This is why you need to find a headache specialist who knows how to treat this disorder.

If you can, please list specifically which medications you've taken and in what dosages. We'll have a much better chance of helping you find where to go if we know where you've been.

Okay. I've been on fifty mg of topamax every day. That started out working, but it gave me skin irritation so I stopped taking it. Then they put me on Verapamil, a hundred mg every day. That started out working, but then it stopped. Then they gave me the fioricet. But that's it. It seems like everything tried starts out working, but then ends up not working anymore.

Hi Jordyn,
You have the best info about CH's ANYWHERE available right here.  Lots of reading to do.  Most of your questions cans be answered by reading current and archived threads.  The O2 helps!  But only if you use it correctly.  The meds suggested all help, but only if used correctly.

The Verap of 100mg yo mentioned is no where near enough to be effective as a preventative med.

You need to read up on preventative, transitional and abortive treatments.

Chances are you will know more about CH's than your doctor after you are done reading for a few hours and taking notes.

After you've felt comfy with your reading and understanding what CH's are, and how to fight the beast...print info from this site and send to your doctor a few days BEFORE your next appt.

Until then, read up on what you can do on your own without a doctor.  YOU are your best and only true ally.  It is VITAL for your sanity and health that you become educated.

PLENTY of helpful info from plenty of helpful people who ALL understand EXACTLY what you are going through.

You are not alone.  Welcome to Clusterville Wink

15?

Mine started at 11, I am now 43.  I relate.  Read & Learn.  This might be, might not, be something you will battle until you are a senior citizen.  Not trying to scare you, trying to prepare you to possible reality.

Most doctors have no clue about CH's because there is not enough of us in the world that suffer or that have been accurately diagnosed.  Have you taken the cluster quiz, survey, etc on the left side of the screen.

O2 really does work, tab on O2 also on the left side of your screen.  Keep in mind, O2 is an abortive, not a transitional nor preventative treatment.  You will need all 3...abortive, transitional and preventative.

Good luck

Mine actually started when I was 3 years old Tongue I've been dealing with them like regular migrains.. no wonder nothing's working. I didn't know about CHs until a few months ago. Yes, I am planning on having my mom call my neurologist tomorrow. (:

Haha yeah, it does suck Tongue But nothing I can do about the past. I'm just going to focus on the future, hopefully a close to pain-free future! But having CHs for eleven years now, I doubt that will happen. Thanks for listening to me (:

Hi Jordyn - you've had great advice so far, so hopefully by working with a neurologist who knows what they are doing with CH plus the benefit of the advice and experience here you will be able to make huge improvements in how you are treating and aborting CHs. This for many, myself included, has turned our lives around.
