Taurine/Caffeine Energy Drinks
Aug 17th, 2011 at 8:57pm

I have read time and time again on here that a 1000 MG dosage of Taurine is ideal to help abort an attack when mixed with caffeine.

As for energy drinks, I prefer the taste of Redbull compared to Monster or Rockstar. However, I looked at 3 different size cans of Redbull at the store this afternoon and none of the 3 cans ingredients list the mg dosage of Taurine, only that Taurine is included as an ingredient.

I just went to the Redbull website and clicked on the Taurine tab and it detailed info about Taurine, but again nothing about the mg dosage of each can size.  Frustrated, I emailed Redbull inquiring the mg dosage and will post their reply here on this thread once they reply.

FYI...Monster and also Rockstar both list on their can ingredients of 1000 MG of Taurine.

PS...Does anybody know the recommended dosage of caffeine to be used in conjunction with 1000 MG of Taurine?

Recommended caffeine dosage is the same as a strong cup of coffee - anywhere from 90 - 150mg - per serving.

Remember, too, that big cans (16 oz) are TWO servings. A serving is generally 8 oz.

The 8 oz can in Oz lists caffeine as 80mg/serve & 1000mg Taurine/serve.

Cheers

That's my understanding for here as well and it seems to be pretty standard for energy drinks that list both ingredients. lance

Strange how a drink "Made in Austria" and/or "Made in Switzerland" list Taurine MG when purchased in Australia, but here in the USA that same can does not list the MG content.

Just curious if the RedBull you purchase in Australia reads "Made in Australia"?

Hopefully I will get a reply from the RedBull customer service dept and will copy/paste their reply here on this thread.

For the cans purchased in New Zealand it gives the taurine content in mg, however the cans I've got here in the UK are marked as 2.5% (no indication as to if it is by mass or by volume).

The NZ cans are marked as being made in Austria, but the UK cans don't mention Austria at all, just giving a London, UK address for correspondence.

Only a guess but I would suspect that like most Internationally available drinks the concentrate would be made in one location then shipped world wide where the water & fizz is added at canning stage.

I know this happens with Coca Cola Amatil as its called in OZ.

Reply confirming Taurine content from RedBull....

"The 8.4 oz can has 1000mg, the 12 oz can has 1420mg, the 16oz can has 1900mg and
the 20 oz can has <2320mg."

The variation in labeling is due to the differing laws on labeling from one place to another.

here in the UK the ingredients list taurine as 0.4% and caffeine as 0.03% . Else where on the can it states the caffeine content to be 32mg/100ml but nothing about taurine. These values are the same on all can sizes.

btw I usually find a 250ml is enough to clear off shadows but I have not tried it on a full hit yet.

There has been mention of the 5 hour energy shots so I looked at one of these little bottles at the store today.

No MG content mentioned for Caffeine nor Taurine, which are both ingredients we CH'ers require.

Sent off an email to their customer service dept and will post their reply, as I did from RedBull seen in post above.

I am not comfortable using the 5 Hour Energy shots, as their reply (seen below) was extremely vague as if they are hiding something....

"Thank you for your email and interest in 5 Hour Energy.  Regular 5 Hour Energy contains caffeine comparable to a cup of the leading premium coffee.  Extra Strength contains caffeine comparable to 12 ounces of the leading premium coffee.  Decaf 5 Hour Energy contains 6 mg. of caffeine, about as much as half a cup of decaf coffee.  The amounts of caffeine and taurine in regular and extra strength are part of our proprietary energy blend and not available for public release.  Please let us know if you have any additional questions.

Sincerely,

Tiffany
