New from Vegas

Hello Everyone...I am new!

I am here to education myself so I can help others. First, I am the longtime girlfriend of LasVegas, who has been suffering with clusters since he was 11 years old (20+years) and a board member since 2003. Second, I am a special ed. teacher that has done extensive research on and has a special interest in neuroscience. I am curious to learn if there is any known correlation between brain-foods (oxygen, water, physical movement) and triggers that lead to cluster headaches.

I in no one claim to know anything... this way I am open to learn!

Thank you! Wink

Oxygen is our number one abortive. Water can also be an abortive for some. Read the tips at left for both. Triggers are a topic of frequent conversation and include rest, REM sleep, high activity, heat, cold...all or none of these. I applaud you for wanting to become more familiar with these horrible events in our lives. Happy research and good hunting. Blessings. lance

This website was changed many years ago and many of us old timers had to register all over again as I did in 2003.  The reality is I have been on this board since 1999 when I self diagnosed.

Glad you joined, thank you for your support  Wink

In 30-yrs of mining the literature I've never seen any serious consideration of these possible associations.

We have, from time to time, had long threads on how posture (largely when sleeping, sitting) are triggers for a fair % of us--but no insights into the causal relationship between an attack & posture.

During the early years of his site, we were still discussing the triggers/causes which were imported from the migraine folks. Much of this material has been discarded reflecting both some decent recent research on Cluster but, we still have little research $ available  for new research approaches directed, narrowly, at Cluster.

Peter Goadsby's work on the link between the hypothalamus & Cluster is, clearly, the most significant research in recent years. Now, his findings need to mature via developing clearer understandings of the processes around Cluster.

We have long benefitted by using the medical treatment research done for migraine: that will continue for "orphan" disorders cannot support independent research.

Smiley Welcome to the board, we're awfully fond of our supporters around here. It's awesome that you're taking such a pro-active supporter approach.

Welcome... Supporters are the best I know I'd be lost without the lovely Mrs. Baer. She found me more help on this forum then I can begin to explain. I lurked long before I became member and she actually joined before I did.....

Oxygen, and perhaps the most important aspect, the compassion and help of fellow sufferers to discuss and compare results. I owe a great deal to her , this forum and all the fine folks who contribute. Good on ya' for learning what it's all about.....
