i have recently been diagnosed with cluster headache. i went to my pcp after experiencing excruciating pain on the right side of my head with eye pain, runny nose and what seemed like all the symptoms of an abcessed tooth without the toothpain....the whole side of my face seemed to be going numb?? i thought i was having a stroke or something.
after 3-4 attacks/day for about a week i went to my pcp who sent me to a neurologist. i was given relpax and that seems to fend it off if i take it when the pressure starts to build. the doctors didnt mention any of the stuff here as far as prevention of the big blast and i am amazed at the wealth of information here. im curious....after my first episode and ever since, i developed tinnitis. its been 6mo. im wondering if it will subside. it gets louder when the headaches come. anybody else have this associated with ch?

I'm sorry for your pain, and no, I haven't developed tinnitis, but when the hits rise above a certain level, say KIP 7+ or so, my ear hurts so badly, and there is a ringing for awhile which goes away. It may be a side effect of the trigeminal nerve involvement, or it may be a separate condition that coincides with your diagnosis of CHs. How are you managing the hits? Blessings. lance

I have the ear ringing, but don't recall when it started, but it doesn't get louder or softer in relation to CH hits.

My CHer has ear ringing too.  I never thought to try and figure out when it started out actually.  I never asked him and he has never really said if it changes with his hits or not.  I will have to ask.  Sorry for your diagnosis...but...listen to those on this site.  There is so much helpful information, that you are sure to find something that works best for you.  There may be no cure...but then...we wouldn't need and appreciate one another as much as we do.  Blessings wrapped in devil's clothing!

Tinnitus is a very common side-effect of narcotic usage.

ETA: Allow me to clarify. Most narcotics are delivered via tablet along with tylenol or aspirin. It is suspected that it is the combination of these (narcotics plus NSAIDs) that actually causes the ringing in the ears.
