I'm not from NZ nor am I a member of Chrstchurch, But I think you'll need a bit more information on your post.... Grin

We are a very rare group of people statistically to begin with and you just may have narrowed it down a bit too much....

I hope you find information you seek, just not sure with only re: and your name... Perhaps a bit more information is in order... Wink

Hi Ruzzo

I'm not aware of anyone on the forums from Christchurch, but there are a few in the North Island in places like Auckland, Wellington and elsewhere. However there are almost certainly other people with CH in Christchurch for sure.

I see from another post that you're using imigran (imitrext) "...taking 4 to 5 shots a day...". This level of use is dangerous! Normally you're not supposed to use more than a couple a day at the very most. And you also mentioned sumatriptan too, mixing different types ot triptans is not good for your heart.

Dealing with CH you need a good preventive. I use verapamil with most people needing 360-480mg a day, although some go to double that dose. There are others like lithium too, which will prevent some of your CHs from happening.

Most preventives take a bit of time to build up, so it's common to use a prednisione taper, starting at about 60mg and tapering off to nothing over a week or so. This will work as a good preventive whilst the longer term preventive builds up. Just don't stay on it too long as prednisione isn't good to your body long term.

Once you get a CH you want to kill it as quick as possible. Imigran will do this, but oxygen is even better and it doesn't have any of the side effects of imgran. It isn't too easy to get this in NZ, however people I've spoken to here in NZ have got it. If you've nothing else, try using a Red Bull or similar energy drink with taurine and caffeine. Just drink it right as a CH hits and you can normally reduce the intensity and duration of a CH.

Not sure if you still log in here or not, but I have just joined. I've been on the Australian site for quite some time and after finding the link to this site, thought I would come over and see if there were any NZers here.

I'm from Christchurch and thought I was the only one here suffering with CH.

I've had CH for 25 years now and still no way has been found to manage it. It's literally doing my head in.

Anyway, if you are still around, I'd love to catch up with you
