O2 Machines?
Oct 17th, 2011 at 10:20am

Does anybody know anything about the O2 concentrator machines. I've had one for a number of years. Ever since I was diagnosed with CH in 2005. My biggest question is do theses machine need service from time to time. If so that might explain why the O2 is no longer effective for me.

I was prescribed this 02 machine and at one point it would knock out an attack in about 2 minutes. I would continue with the the treatment for a full ten minutes in fear of the pain returning. Now, however I only get relief from the very severe pain as long as I breathe the O2. As soon as I take the mask off within 30 second or so the pain returns full force. So now, I sit for 2 or more hours breathing the high flow O2 for only relief.

This unit came by way of medical coverage I had through the county as result of losing yet another job to the beast. After the time of coverage had elapsed, the company that supplied me the equipment called to set up a pick up for the following day. I waited all day for them to come and pick up the equipment. They never came, they never called me again. Can't blame me for not going out of my way to give back the equipment, but I was there for the pick up all day. Wasn't working at that point. So as a result I became the proud new owner of a O2 concentrator unit that was probably worth $3500 or more since I had a high flow unit.

I don't know if any of you out the in CH land know where I could get the machine serviced without a lot of questions. I Live in California and have family that would spare no expense to get this thing working again since they are somewhat aware of the torture so many of us go thru. Dose anybody have connections in the industry?

Is there anything I can do to get the amount of oxygen I need for an attack. The machine must be making O2 still since it provides relief. Any thoughts on this would be very welcome as I currently have no effective abortive anymore.

IMO  it's a clunker that only delivers low lpm of 1-5 lpm.  Junk it and get a real setup.

Thanks for that. However It didn't provide any useful information. It seems I need to find a quilified service solution that won't ask to many questions about it.

ClusterChef,

Cook yourself up a Redneck Reservoir Bag oxygen breathing system and give that a try with your oxygen concentrator.  The recipe is listed in post #4 of the following link:

Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register

You'll need to pre-fill the Redneck Reservoir Bag system and seal it with a rubber band for a gas tight seal ahead of time and exhale away from the mouthpiece during the actual therapy... but other than that, these contraptions have the least breathing resistance of any NRB mask or demand valve in the market and there's no flow limitation.

You'll have no problem breathing the 75% oxygen from your concentrator at respiration rates and tidal volumes that support hyperventilation.

Take care,

V/R, Batch

I gotta think if you are having less success with the concentrator... you may need to step up to the high flow 100% O2 you get with a tank. It may not be the concentrator at all.

You know thats brings a real good point. My e tanks are both empty and need to have them fill. When I was at the ER the O2 they hooked me up to was far more effective but the attack didn't end until the hooked me up to a Magnisum Sulfate drip. 2000mg.

Thank you for all your words eneryone. They really mean alot right now, Cause this is one downed CH'er right now.
